Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals Photos: Survivors, Restorations, Barn Finds, And More. It Is Muscle Car Heaven…

Here’s our third gallery of photos from Jim who is such a die-hard. Like Bob Chiluk, who also shot the show for us, these guys just live and breath this kind of event. We have several galleries coming, so stay tuned for more in the next week! (Words and Photos by Jim Hrody) Located in Rosemont’s cavernous Stephens Convention Center, the Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals has become a Fall tradition for the car hobby. Yes, you’ll see muscle cars and Corvettes but also plenty more extensions of those descriptions us gearheads appreciate. In general, GM, FoMoCo, and Ma Mopar are well represented, but examples from AMC and even Studebaker are scattered around. This year had what seemed to be an endless supply of Wing Cars from Dodge and Plymouth. Can’t forget to check out the Mecum display each year which has a handful of cars from upcoming auctions. The back corner always holds a ‘barn find’ area containing a selection of rusty and dusty as-found rarities. A new feature this year was the

Video – The Great Achievement: In 1958 Sir Edmund Hillary Drove To The South Pole On A Tractor

Image
In 1958 Sir Edmund Hillary lead the first motorized expedition to the South Pole. His choice of vehicle? Massey Ferguson tractors and these were not huge Massey Ferguson tractors but pretty humble little farm tractors that were altered with small, roofless cabs and tracks to traverse the snow. Remember that Hillary was the guy who conquered Mt. Everest famously and he had to have been at least slightly unnerved when any vestiges of human life disappeared behind his expedition of little tractors as they plugged off into the white hell. It was a 16 day trip through the brutally cold, unpredictable conditions. As you will see in this video, the tractors broke though often and had to be rescued from falling completely down some hellaciously deep crevices in the ice. They basically drove hundreds of miles in Antarctica in convertibles. Talk about hell! Here’s a quote from Hillary that dates to 2003 regarding the expedition: Oh, no [it wasn’t harder than Everest]. It was different in many

Listening To Dave McClelland Call A 1980s Stadium Off Road Race Will Make Your Day

Image
Mickey Thompson’s Off Road Warriors was a film produced the 1980s to act as a promotional tool for short course off road racing, a sport that the man had himself invented and was promoting hard. The video is a feature length production that has lots of great elements. In the interest of time we have decided to skip almost an hour into it to show you one of our favorite clips which is Dave McClelland calling a short course off road race in only the way he can. The voice, the excitement, and the delivery is all there as you would expect our of a consummate pro like Mac. It also leads us to believe that if he were not calling drag racing early on in life he would have ended up as a famed racing announcer of any genre! The other things we love in this video are the trucks. Unlike today’s stadium racing trucks and short course off road stuff, these things were high pitched, stiffly sprung, and generally not nearly as good as their modern brethren. It makes for a great show as they jump awk

Fantastic Video: This Old Ad For A Fiat 127 Features One Of The More Incredible Driving Sequences Ever

Image
The Fiat 127 was one of those cars that people instantly ate up. Fiat sold ’em like they were free beer from the early 1970s right into the 1980s with little more than cosmetic upgrades. The car you see in the video below was built before 1977 so it was somewhere between that initial year of 1971 and 1977 because after that the front ends changed. If the car is stock, it also makes 45hp. We say that not to be derisive but to let you know what one of the most legendary stunt drivers of all time Remy Julienne was working with. Julienne has been involved in hundreds of films and has pulled off some of the coolest car stunts of all time. This may not rank among the greats in that regard but when you see what happens here, we know you’ll respect this guy even more. The rough jumps that the car completes to start the video are cool but when he gets that little sucker up on the train it makes a move to the amazing. Running at what appears to be full throttle, Julienne runs the car from the r

Track Freaks: Check Out This 1990 Video With A Mini-Van Tank and The Crazy Super Trax Peterbilt

Image
Molalla, Oregon is the spot where this video was captured about 30 years ago and it’s a pretty neat watch if you are a fan of monster trucks from the 1980s and early 1990s. The video shows a couple of the trucks that the prolific Mike Welch put together back in the day. We can see his well known Super Pete big rig in the background but that isn’t really the star of the show here. First you’ll see a mini-van bodied tank attacking the cars and doing some free style stuff and while that is OK, it isn’t the star either. The thing that stopped us in our tracks….oh boy do we crack ourselves up….was the Super Trax 1957 Peterbilt bodied tank. It looks like something out of a video game because the chassis/tank that the body is sitting on is really small and it looks so weird because all there is to see is a cab and a set of tracks. The truck is capable as Welch gets some air, rips some donuts, and makes a relatively quick appearance with the thing. The stacks and roof mounted air horns are a

Mullet Just Set the Christmas Tree 1/4 Mile WORLD RECORD At The Christmas Drags! Deep Into the 6’s!

Image
Deep 6’s at over 210 mph with a Christmas Tree strapped to it! Hell yes, Mullet hauls ass and we know that already, but when it has a Christmas Tree all decorated and lit hanging up above the bed and the roof. There is nothing aerodynamic about this bad boy now, and we wonder how in the hell any part of this tree survived going 210 miles per hour! It’s a badass ride for sure, and Peter Harrell has really turned this thing around and made it run to its full potential. Clearly, Cleetus is happy with that, and so were the fans who got to see this kind of performance. Video Description: The Christmas Tree drags are always a BLAST!!! Can’t believe mullet went that freaking fast with a tree on the roof… or at least part of a tree!!! The post Mullet Just Set the Christmas Tree 1/4 Mile WORLD RECORD At The Christmas Drags! TESTING THE OLD MAN’S GARAGE MALIBU, PLUS THE OMG CHRISTMAS PARTY

Image
The Old Man’s Garage Malibu really turns my crank. I got to see the car up close and personal at the recent PRI Show in Indy and it was awesome. This car has the right plain jane looks with just the wheels and tires letting you know that there is something going on under the beige exterior. This thing is powered by a 421 cubic inch small-block with a dual stage plate nitrous system and it still has air conditioning! I think this would be a fun drag and drive and street race ride for sure and I would love to have it in my garage. Wouldn’t you? Tell us what you think of this thing because we want to hear what you’d love to do with it. Video Description: Tess and Tony helped me do some testing before we head south after Christmas! Pro Touring Triumph GT6 Build: The Rust Needs Taken Care Of, And Then This Thing Is Going To Start Getting Good.

Image
In the latest episodes of this build, the plans get explained, the parts are introduced, and the engine starts going in. So this project here has been going on for several years, and we kind of dig it, mostly because it is going from restomod to pro-touring machine and we dig the direction. To bring everyone up to speed we decided we are going to throw a bunch of videos at you in order to get caught up closer to where the real fun is beginning. We could have started with the real custom parts, but figured you would want the history and might enjoy all the body repair going on with this one. We dig it and hope you will too. This is a Triumph GT6, which I think is a super cool-looking little car that’s sort of like a Datsun Z car and the like. The lines are classic, the size is great for having some fun, and it is definitely not something you see every day. Watch This Blown S10 Take The Long Way Down Brazil’s Curitiba Autodrome Drag Strip – Wild

Image
Aaaannnddd we’re back! Yes, another day another awesome video from the Brazilian drag strip known as Curitiba Autodrome. This time we’re not focusing on the big jump in the right hand lane of the track but we’re focusing on a blown S10 truck that is immaculate, awesome, and all kinds of crossed up during an attempted run at the facility. The last time we saw a driver put this much steering input into a car was Ken Block when we were riding shotgun with him a few months ago. The truck is a beautiful piece and we’re not sure if it was imported from the USA or if it was built locally in Brazil but we can tell you that the motor has USA written all over it (literally). The Littlefield blower on top is awesome, the MSD magneto hanging off the side is sweet, the funny car style zoomie headers make beautiful noise, and while we cannot directly identify the heads the engine is a “Chevrolet” style big block and boy does it sound healthy. With a nice crisp exhaust note this is a real power mak

Tour The World’s Largest Trophy Truck Factory – Brenthel Industries Shop Tour 2022

Shop tours are super cool, and they are especially rad when they are at places like Brenthel that make some awesome machines! In this video tour of their 55,000-square-foot warehouse building, you are going to see all kinds of cool stuff. I love Trophy Trucks and Pre Runners and all the great things that race across the desert so this place is kind of a dream come true. They have killer machines, skilled fabricators and welders, and more on site to build these things and we wish we were test-driving all of them. Ian Johnson Is Tearing His New Bomber Fab Trail Chassis Apart, But Why?

Image
Why the hell is Ian tearing apart the buggy that he just finished putting together for a trail ride? He says he loves it, but it’s got a couple of things he wants to make some adjustments to, so into the shop it goes! What’s he going to change, how much work is it going to need, and how long will it all take? Watch the video and see what’s going on, because he says he’s got some stuff to cut up. BANGshift Question Of The Day: Would You Take A Ride In A Flying Car Like This?

Image
The idea of flying cars is nothing new, but they have been changing from looking like a car and a plane had a baby, to looking like a giant multi-rotor drone with a car hanging from it. So since drones are so common with kids playing with them, video being shot with them, etc, does that make a flying car that looks like a drone something you would trust more or less than a flying car with wings? And does the fact that this is a Chinese car company trying to build this freak you out? Or that the cars themselves don’t seem to be available for sale yet? I’m not sure. But it does seem to get off the ground! SO WOULD YOU TAKE A RIDE IN IT OR NOT? Video Description: Flying car X3(internal code name)’s test vehicle made its maiden flight successfully. Chronicles of BeerMoney: Episode 1 – 6 Things You Gotta Have To Be Successful In No Prep Drag Racing

Image
No-Prep drag racing is ultra simple, in principle. I mean all you need to know is that the track doesn’t have any glue or prep done to it before the race starts so as to mimic the streets as much as possible. With that said, some tracks scrape to bare concrete or asphalt before racing starts, but regardless the track will come around more and more as the event goes on. But sometimes it comes around a lot and lots of times it doesn’t come around much at all. Regardless, the track is going to be the variable when it comes to going rounds, but a lot of guys have figured it out. One of them is Peter Harrell, our engine builder extraordinaire from the $10k Drag Shootout, who has partnered up with Lyle Barnett on the Mustang we built on the show to be a force to be reckoned with. Beer Money, our 4-eyed Fox Body Mustang, is a race-winning machine and that’s because Lyle and Pete have worked their asses off to develop a winning combo that can make it down the track and do it fast. Luckily Pe

Engine Video: A Look At The 1992 Chevy LT5 Small Block Assembly Line And Machining Process

Image
There was nothing as exotic as the 1992 Chevy LT5 small block coming from a domestic manufacturer during that time period. The Lotus designed heads, the Mercury Marine connection for building them, the 400+ horsepower output, all of it was wild. The first small block the the camshafts outside of the block freaked out many people but put smiles on he faces of thousands more who bought them and pounded on them. The engines were placed in the ZR-1 model of the Corvette that stirred the same feelings among Corvette lovers as the ZR-1 models did from decades back. These were romping, stomping machines dressed in a pretty spiffy package for their era. Because the volume of production for these engines was to be so low, Chevrolet contacted the actual building of them out to Mercury Marine. The company had an outstanding reputation and the ability to be flexible with their production. Basically 3,000 units per year was the expected volume and Mercury gladly took on the business. This is one you must collect, the Texas Streets: The Hunt DVD from 1320Video is showing some of the best and baddest street race action from Texas, back when it all really kicked off in 2014. We’re talking about big money racing, on the streets, with much-unwanted police attention. Check it out here, where 1320Video uploaded all this content so you can watch it free! Video Description: “Texas Streets: The Hunt” is an iconic movie from the 1320video Archives that we’re happy to release as a part of our annual Holiday free DVD uploads. This movie features over 100 street races on the roads of Texas (circa 2014). This year, local authorities stepped up their presence – deploying over 100 additional units throughout the week to thwart street racers from getting their 3-honks in. Racers had to be more creative than in previous years and many found their way to meet spots on Private property where the police couldn’t mess with them. Two Wheel Bruiser: This 1995 Review Of Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Is Both Hilarious and Awesome

Image
It’s the comically massive motorcycle we have all gawked at going down the highway. It’s the Buick Electra 225 on two wheels. It’s the Honda Gold Wing and for the life of that model name it has been a large order but it was in the 1990s when the Gold Wing became the highway mile crushing behemoth we know it as today. Packing a flat six engine, full car gauges, seats that you can live in and more trunk space than a Civic, this was a machine designed to swallow highway miles like candy and boy, have they ever. This MotorWeek review of the 1995 Honda Gold Wing is awesome for many reasons but whoever the genius was that said, “Hey, park it next to that Honda CAR,” should have gotten a raise. We’re not kidding. It’s a stunning thing to see this motorcycle sitting next to an automobile and then revel in the fact that the bike is bigger in nearly every respect. Cripes, the thing is so big they gave it reverse! Guys build awesome sleepers out of these, they make killer Cafe Racers out of the

This 1969 Plymouth Belvedere, Road Runner, and GTX Sales Trainer Video Rules

Image
Trippy, weird, informative, and fun. Those are the words we would use to describe this 1969 Plymouth training video that was distributed to dealers across the country for them to show their sales staff so that they could be prepared to hawk the next year’s models as soon as they became available. Lots of the time is spend talking about the performance variants to the lineup. That is one of the things that makes this a neat watch. Originally set up as a film strip, you’ll see fixed images while the narrator talks to the scenes and gives all the info. Perhaps our favorite part of the whole video is the excitement over the talk about the new for ’69 “Mod” option. This was a wild homage to the times and essentially it was a flowered interior and roof covering that was available. Knowing how rare they would be today we’d jump back in time and buy a couple to stash away. Only about 2800 cars were made with the mod tops and the majority were Plymouths. Who knew?! Lastly, the talk about axle

El Toro Has An Attitude! Cleetus Christmas Tree Race Extravaganza 2022!

Image
Cleetus’ Christmas Race had to be moved up a day but that sure didn’t stop everyone from having an awesome time! With weather moving through the area, that threatened to wash out Thursday’s scheduled race, Wednesday was looking like a much better plan so Victor and the crew at the track decided that was the smart move. The race has become kind of a big deal since starting a couple years ago, and has some pretty simple rules. You must race with a Christmas Tree on or in your vehicle, it must be a minimum of 6 feet tall, it can’t fall off, and you have to have lights on it. Simple right? Well… Here is the Motion Raceworks video from the race, where El Toro put on a show.   The post El Toro Has An Attitude! Watching This Big Block Chevy Powered Tractor Puller Drag The Sled On Asphalt With Slicks Is Awesome

Image
As gearheads we have a lot of those, “I wonder what you happen if…” scenarios that run through our heads. Lots of us have wondered aloud what would happen with a big pulling tractor on the drag strip with slicks (nothing good) or maybe what would happen if a puller got put on drag slicks and tried to pull the sled on pavement. Well this is probably the closest we’ll get to that last scenario even if it is on a slightly smaller scale. The tractor in this video is similar to a mini-rod but not quite exactly like one. Powered by a carbed big block Chev engine and pulling at some sort of street event the little beast sounds awesome and does a pretty good job with the sled! We’re pretty sure that Mickey Thompson wouldn’t be too enthusiastic about the big load and the weight bearing down on those slicks but being that this is in a controlled environment and all the risks seems pretty low. We think that this could be a pretty popular spectator sport, especially if it were done with the big t

Merry Christmas From BangShift.com – Have A Great Day!

Image
On behalf of Brian Lohnes, Chad Reynolds, myself, our families and our BangShift.com sponsors, we would like to wish all of our friends and you, our readers, a very Merry Christmas today. We are going to be spending this day with our loved ones and we encourage you to do the same…today is the day to eat, drink, be merry, and maybe have just one more drink as the kids play with their new toys and the adults relax and watch the fun. We hope that several boxes under the tree had your name on the tag, and were filled with what you were hoping for (you  did ask Santa for car parts and that new tool set, didn’t you?) and hey…if there was a very merry set of tire marks out front of the house, just blame it on Saint Nick…that old man is in a hurry anyways! A special shout-out goes out to those in the Armed Services who are currently spending the holiday with their “second family” and not at home. I’ve been there and done it myself, and both Brian and Chad understand what that entails. Be sur

SHOULD YOU RUN YOUR JUNKYARD 5.3L LS HOTTER OR COLDER FOR MAXIMUM POWER? 116 DEGREES VS 180 DEGREES!

Image
Over the past 50 years, automobile manufacturers have made a lot of changes to engines in order to make more power, more efficiently, and with fewer exhaust emissions. There are a lot of physical changes that help with this, some minor and some major. One of the minor changes that has come about is changing the temperature at which these engines operate. While 180-200 degrees was once the norm, newer engines run 20-30 degrees hotter on average. This helps with emissions, and in some cases efficiency, but sometimes costs power. But what about the difference between ultra-cold hero dyno temps and actual hot rod temps? Watch the latest video from Richard and you’ll see! Video Description: FREE JUNKYARD LS POWER MODS! LOW-BUCK, AUTO PART STORE OIL VS VS HIGH $ SYNTHETIC! 0W-10 VS 20W-50. CAN YOU GET POWER FROM AN OIL CHANGE?

Image
Does high-dollar oil make more power? We’re talking power, not longevity, as I am a believer that in certain applications there is an advantage to buying good oil. But I also know that most cars on the roads are fine with whatever slimy oil you pour into them. Of course, that does depend on the engine you have in your ride, as Direct Injection engines are harder on oil than their traditionally injected or carbureted engines. That’s a whole discussion for another day though. This video from Richard Holdener has all the numbers testing cheap vs expensive, thick vs thin, and more. Check it out. When you have as many rigs as Finnegan does, there is a time when you probably need to thin the herd. He’s had a bunch of haulers, but Square Force One is arguably his most famous and for good reason. This thing is awesome. It is fully built, has very limited mileage, and is as clean as they come. Check out the details and photos below. Here’s the listing from Facebook Marketplace. Been going back and forth about selling this truck. I don’t use it enough. Needs nothing. 454/4L80E trans with overdrive and lockup converter. Transmission is a Gearstar Level 4 trans that’s only got 5,000 miles on it. Plenty of power, will go up any hill at the speed limit. 19.5-inch Alcoa wheels and I just spent $3000 for new tires. New brakes, new wheel bearings, new steering and suspension components. It drives and stops great! It has an incredible audio system with Zapco and Hybrid Audio speakers, amp, sub, signal processor. 47,000 original miles. Lots of room inside. The interior is mint. No rips, te

FAST LSXR INTAKE TEST-IS IT WORTH $1000? HOW MUCH HP DOES IT ADD? LSXR VS CHEAP, JUNKYARD TRUCK INTAKE

Image
One thing that sucks about modern EFI engines like the LS, LT, Mod Motors, And HEMIs is that aftermarket intake manifolds for them tend to be really expensive. It’s understandable as there is a lot of technology going on in there and the manufacturing is way different than the typical cast aluminum intake manifold. Some of these intakes cost around $600 but some are closer to $1,500. The question is whether or not they are worth it. In truth, we know they work, and work well, but whether it is worth the money or not is going to be up to you. In this test video from Richard Holdener, who has tested more LS intake manifolds than anyone on earth, he’ll show the real results of testing this hopped-up 5.3 with a stock truck intake and a FAST LSXr. Video Description: LOW-BUCK, CHEAP, JUNKYARD TRUCK INTAKE VS BIG BUCKS FAST LSXR! HOW MUCH POWER IS THE FAST LSXR INTAKE WORTH ON MY LS? SHOULD I BUY IT FOR MY STOCK 4.8L OR 5.3L? SEMA STATEMENT ON THE STATUS OF THE RECOGNIZING THE PROTECTION OF MOTORSPORTS (RPM) ACT

Image
DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Dec. 22, 2022) –  SEMA and PRI must share that despite strong Congressional backing and extraordinary support from the racing community, the 2021-2022 Congressional session is ending without passage of the RPM Act. Key negotiators in Congress could not reach an agreement on bill language that balanced the need for federal law to protect racers and motorsports parts businesses from EPA enforcement with reasonable measures to ensure that race parts are not used on vehicles driven on roads and public highways. The RPM Act made incredible progress in the 2021-2022 session of Congress. In addition to more than 1.5 million letters advocating for the RPM Act from the grassroots motorsports community to Congress, SEMA and PRI worked with Richard Petty to meet personally with key lawmakers in Washington, D.C., and with NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown to testify before the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. SEMA and PRI thank the RPM Act’s lead sponsors

Continued Race Coverage: Drag Race Photos From The ATCO Dragway Halloween Bash!

Here’s our second gallery from the Bash! (Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) This post is coming in around Christmas and New Year’s Day, but the subject matter happened earlier this year at Halloween. This was the last race of the 2022 racing season for me and my Mustang. We made the trek across the Walt Whitman Bridge from Pennsylvania into New Jersey and headed to Atco Dragway for the Halloween Bash. This was part of the Northeast Index Racing Series, featuring heads-up classes including 8.50, 10.00, 11.50, and 12.50 index classes. Also, on tap were dial-in classes Top Sportsman and Pro Dial. I raced in Pro Dial, which is a .500 pro tree, dial your own class with 5 grand to the winner. We had a solid turnout of racers, and fierce competition across all the classes. Cool temps and blue skies along with a sticky Atco dragstrip made for a great way to finish out our 2022 campaign. I had a 3rd round exit but had a ton of fun. Check out the photos for a glimpse of what showed up, race ca

Hang On! Ride Inside A 1960s Porsche 911 For An Awesome, Sideways Lap Of Spa!

Image
Note the position of the steering wheel and the route of the road course in this video. Yeah, there’s a significant difference in both of those things. Classic Porsches are among the coolest looking, neatest sounding, and dangerous cars to drive at their full potential. Why? Their rear engine layout and propensity to swap ends at the drop of a hat made them both fun to watch and fearsome. Modern engineering and technology has changed the mighty 911 in many ways. Sure, it can still sneak up on the unsuspecting behind the wheel but the reality is that there are enough electronic saviors to prevent those lacking in talent from meeting their untimely demise. None of that stuff existed in the 1960s and thusly, this awesome race car has none of it. Ollie Bryant is the driver of the car and Bryant is no stranger to the electronic pages of BangShift as we have captured his steering wheel greatness more than a couple of times here. This is one of the most fun road racing videos we have watche

BangShift Tune Up: Spirit Of America – The Beach Boys (1963)

Image
If there’s a cooler car song out there, let us know. As the only known song every written about a Bonneville car, this is about the best thing ever and it was performed by the Beach Boys! Of course, Craig Breedlove became a literal national hero when he averaged 407mph and took the land speed record to American shores. The boyish, camera friendly California hot rodder was among the most famous people on the planet and he was at the beginning of a multiple year speed war that would further cement his status as one of the greatest hot rodders who has ever lived. One of the fun facts about this song is that it is listed as being written by Brian Wilson and Roger Christian. As Wilson did not know what end of a car someone sat in, Christian should get most of the credit here. He co-wrote some of the most iconic car songs of the 1960s with the Beach Boys along with Jan and Dean. In this case, stuff like the reference to the J-47 engine, the speed, and other semi-racer elements are all him.

Check Out This Epic Lathe Restoration! This Video Will Inspire You To Find And Restore Some Old Tools!

Image
A couple of months ago we shared a lathe restoration video that had us drooling, so when we saw this new one come up we decided we had to share it as well. Old tools and equipment are awesome, but sometimes they need a freshen-up to look or perform their best. In the case of old milling machines and lathes, they often work perfect but are cosmetically challenged after decades of use. So how hard is it to restore one so it looks awesome in your shop? I’ve never done it, but I do like watching videos on it so I’ll know what I’m up against when I find the right deal for my own machine. Video Description: After over 700 hours of work I have completed my lathe restoration. I am excited to share this video. Enjoy! The post Check Out This Epic Lathe Restoration! Single Seat Race Car Build Part 18: It’s DONE!!! Introducing The Midnight Special. Watch It Run!

Image
This episode of the Single Seat Race Car build is awesome because it’s done! Yes, the Midnight Special is going for its maiden voyage and is off and running! We’ll show you the video from its first race outing in the next day or two, but here it is in all its glory! Bennett’s Customs is an Australian traditional hot rod builder that does some pretty cool car and motorcycle projects, and they have embarked on a new project that must be done by September in order to go racing at the Perkolilli Red Dust Revival. This is a single-seat race car build, like one that you would have seen in the 1940s and they are building it from a mix of scratch-made parts, stuff that has been sitting around collecting dust, and some more traditional parts they will no doubt be wheeling and dealing for. If you are into traditional rides, like those we feature from Iron Trap Garage, then you are going to dig what they are doing here. I’m intrigued, and inspired, by projects like this because we all tend to ma

Motion Raceworks Tech Tip Tuesday: Unpack Your Parachutes!

Image
Unpack your chutes? Wait, what? Yep, unpack them. If you have a car that is going 150 mph or more on the dragstrip you are required to have a parachute on the car. You are not required to use it, but you are required to have one. With that said, there are only a couple of scenarios that would have me not using the chutes as it keeps the car straight in the shutdown area. In this video from Motion Raceworks, Doug talks about one of those scenarios which is running an 1/8th mile on a 1/4 mile track where there is a lot of shutdown to get through in order to get off the race track. In this video, Doug talks about their project Mustang called El Toro which has been raced a lot this year but that hasn’t used the chute in a long time. This can be bad when you need it, and Doug is going to explain why. When a chute sits in the bag on the back of the car, all packed up tight, for long periods of time they can absorb moisture and get stiff. This makes it harder for them to deploy. Listen to

Barra Bomb: Watch This Mustang Make 1,200hp On A Hub Dyno And Then Hit The Streets – Aussie Hot Rod!

Image
Now this thing is nasty. You are about to see one of the cleanest Mustangs we’ve ever laid eyes on hammer out 1,200hp on the hub dyno using a Ford Barra straight six which still has its stock crank installed! The turbocharged and highly modified version of the venerable Ford inliner from Australia is sitting in a wonderfully clean early Mustang and while the owner liked going 9.50s with ease at the strip, he was ready for more. And boy did he get it. This video is cool because it takes us beyond some dyno pulls. We get to se the car on the street and we learn the history of the machine from the owner who has basically built the thing by himself from the ground up, outside of the engine program. Of course as we all know by now, the Barra six is kind of the Aussie LS engine in many ways. They were made in huge quantities and they can be had for a song. If you want to make solid power, you can basically score one from the wreckers and turbocharge it. If you want to make enormous power, y
