Best Bench Grinder? Let’s Settle This! Harbor Freight Bauer vs JET, Hercules, Rikon, Shop Fox, Delta

Image
Shop tools can be so hard to shop for sometimes, and that’s because there are so many options available! I know that sounds funny, but sometimes having so many options can make it hard to make a buying decision. With so many price points and so many brands, who knows what is actually good for your shop? Specs can only tell so much. Thankfully the Project Farm YouTube channel has a new bench grinder test video out and that means you can see a bunch of them battle it out head to head to see what makes them good or bad. With this kind of testing you can decide which one is worth your heard earned money. Check it out. Video Description: Bench Grinders: JET, Shop Fox, Rikon, Delta, SKIL, Hercules, Bauer, Performance Tool, WEN. Bench grinders tested for the amount of time for the grinder to reach full operating speed, wheel stop speed, electric motor torque, electric motor temperature after 15 minutes of intense use, electric motor watts under load, grinder weight, abrasive wheel quality

Halfass Kustoms 1955 Chevrolet NAPCO 4×4 Project: Finishing The Final Details On This Build And Trying To Get It Stuck In The Snow!

Image
In this final installment of the NAPCO Clone build, Brent has some work to do in order to get this thing out the door and finished! If you have missed any of the previous installments on this build, use the link below! NAPCO was a company that built 4-wheel drive conversion parts for domestic trucks and was founded in 1918. Although they made parts for Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Studebaker trucks, they are most well known for building parts for Chevrolet and GMC trucks. Starting in 1942 they offered full conversion kits that you could buy and have delivered so that you, or your local dealer, could do the conversion. In 1956 GM actually offered NAPCO conversion from the factory so you could order it and pick one up at your dealership. They are fairly rare to find now as many lived rough lives, but lots of folks want them. One such person is Brent from Halfass Kustoms who doesn’t care about having a real one, just something that looks like one but works better. Here’s what he’s going to

Nonstop Rally Carnage Video: Watch This Footage From Poland With A Seatbelt On

Image
A bad day at the office for some race car drivers can look like scrubbing a wall or maybe suffering through a poor pitstop but a bad day for a rally driver and co-driver looks like your car in the woods, wrapped around an oak tree. We got an email tip on this video from Poland that completely blew our minds. Coming in at just under six minutes it captures everything from cars hip-checking trees and flipping over to a multitude of cars sliding off the same corner and literally ending up stranded in the woods. There’s gotta be half the field in there! Perhaps the most stunning piece of footage comes from an unmanned camera very late in the video. There are several cameras placed at the base of a large jump and when Ford (Fiesta?) comes over the thing at full song it launches into the air and makes a beeline to the assembled equipment. The flight path carries it perfectly into one particular camera and the view is pretty wild as you see the thing catch air and then hang for a second befo

Introducing Devize Engines “Barrell” Engine: Supercharged, Opposed Piston, 4 Cylinder, 2 Stroke!

Image
Shane Tecklenburg works on some pretty cool stuff, and this right here is no exception.  His friends at Devize engines have put something together here that is a 4 cylinder engine, with 8 pistons, and that’s not even the most interesting part. Watch this video where Shane introduces the engine and gets it up and running. This is going to be a fun one to watch. Video Description: A new design from Devize Engines, we attempt to start and run for the first time ever their “Barrell” Engine. The brainchild of Matt Jackson combined with the Engineering expertise of Dimitrios Dardalis (PhD), s an Axial 4 cylinder 2 stroke with 8 opposing pistons. The reciprocating motion is transferred into rotary motion via piston extenders which have rollers connected to either side of a Cam Plate. The engine is controlled by one of our Custom Firmware MoTeC M142 Direct Injection Engine Management Systems. It features both DI and Port Injection. Cylinder deactivation, electronic Supercharger bypass, two

Watch This Modified Vintage McCulloch MC49 Kart Engine Make Dyno Pulls!

Image
Small engines are awesome. From chainsaws to go karts the little mills keep the world moving and keep work getting done. Few outfits in history have had the influence and evolutionary umph of the McCulloch company in the realm of small engines. This is especially true in the world of karting. Their pieces are now highly prized for people restoring vintage karts of racing them competitively. In this video we see a modified McCulloch MC49 engine that has been expanded to 80cc in displacement make some pulls on an inertia dyno. The little buzzing engine screams happily as the RPMs climb and while the power output is not huge (it is sub two digits) we think that the hot rodded engine makes far more than it would of stock. One of the people comments that the output is low for 80cc and he is right when put in a modern context but when we look at the engine layout and remember that it is 50 years old, it gets much more clear that the work put into this engine has been fruitful. When you take

The Working Man’s Sedan Part 6: How To Channel A Hot Rod At Home

Image
Here’s the sixth installment in the channeled Model A Build. This sucker is getting a 6″ channel job! Model A Fords are cool hot rod projects and my favorite is a chopped Model A Sedan. While a Tudor is the preferred sedan, a Fordor is cool to me too. This project here is a Tudor so everyone that likes a two-door sedan Model A Ford will dig this one. It’s getting the chassis Z’d out back, the body will be channeled, and it’s going to be cool as hell. What is special about this project is the fact that it is NOT going to be completely finished. It is just being put together into a roller project for someone else to buy and finish the way they want. Mike from This Old Hot Rod has been on a bit of a break from his channel and has decided that this project here needs to find a new home so he can get back at it and build the project cars he really cares about. With that said, he does want this one to be done right so that someone else has a great place to start and he’s taking us all alon

Street Machine Nationals Photo Coverage: Thousands Of Rad Rides! Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Customs, And More!

(Words and Photos by Jim Hrody) If you’re a proper gearhead, you’re aware of the Street Machine Nationals which have been around for decades. The namesake show has had locations far and wide, but now stays planted in the Midwest. Once connected to Car Craft Magazine, the event carries on solo these days and while the DuQuoin, Illinois show is the most famous, Saint Paul, Minnesota’s show is easily three or four times the size. Just read the license plates— Illinois, Iowa, Manitoba, Minnesota, Missouri, Ontario, South Dakota, Wisconsin and beyond. The count of registered vehicles has reached 7000-plus cars and trucks in years past, and the 2022 event seemed to be close to that number, if not greater. The show takes place in July every year and is mainly a muscle car, street machine, and pro street affair, though a few front-wheel drives and 4x4s find their way in too. Other notables include an autocross course, a dyno area, a burnout contest, and a huge vendor row. The host location,

2023 Pittsburgh World of Wheels Photos: Indoor Car Show Greatness

Here’s our second gallery from World of Wheels, and it is full of great stuff. If you missed any of our previous photos, use the link below. (Photos by Mike Brooks) The World of Wheels Car Shows have been around for decades and are often the only connection to hot rods and racing, outside of someone’s garage, that goes on during the winter indoor car show season. Their shows are big events, featuring bitchin rides, and it has become tradition for us to share photos from their shows with all of you, thanks to some great contributors like Mike Brooks. This particular gallery is from the 2023 Pittsburgh World of Wheels and we can’t thank Mike enough for sharing all the cool stuff that he found. Pittsburgh is a city of great tradition. Awesome In-Car Video: Watch A Wingless Sprint Car Pull Huge Wheelies Off the Corners Of A Dirt Track!

Image
As the world has known for like 100 years, Sprint Cars are awesome. Case in point, this video which shows a wingless sprint car making laps on a dirt track and pulling the front end off the ground on the exit of virtually every corner. We’re not sure if this was a qualifying session or practice or something because there doesn’t appear to be other cars on the track, but it is a five minute demonstration on how gutsy these little short wheelbase monsters are. We don’t know squat about the chassis setup on these cars or whether the wheelies are an indication of a flaw in said set up or a sign that you’ve got the thing on kill as it is dead hooking on greased up dirt. We know guys with drag cars that can’t get this to happen on asphalt! The throttle response and sounds that this car makes are wonderful. As soon as the driver breathes on the throttle, the motor is screaming away and the front end starts to climb. He appears to be taking it easy through the corners without much slip angle,

How to Get More Money When Selling Your Car

Auction Photos: Project After Project Just Waiting To Be Saved, Up For Auction In Texas

Here’s another one! Last weekend we went to the town of West Texas for an auction that was pretty incredible. Located at an iconic spot on I35, just south of town, the site had been the talk of hot rodders and collectors for decades as it has been a restoration and hot rod shop that housed an amazing number of cars, parts, signs, and other memorabilia. When a place is this well known, you can imagine what the buzz was like when it was announced that everyone on the property was up for auction. With more than 1,500 lots for sale, this three-day auction was going to be full of non-stop auctioning action. The auction’s cars went up for auction on the first day, and we were on site to check it out, get photos, and to maybe buy a thing or two. Our buddy Ryan Wing from Street Car Chronicles was also on-site and we had some fun walking around looking at cars and bidding on a few things. On days two and three the collection of memorabilia, signs, etc went across the auction block and there

Crash, Bang, BOOM Video: These 1990s Era Nostalgia Drag Racing Wrecks Are Nasty

Image
Nostalgia Drag Racing today in the year 2016 is a far different animal than the activity that began back in the 1970s and then really caught fire in the 1990s. If you had told someone in the middle 1990s that someday there would be “nostalgia” funny car running mid fives at over 250 mph they would have had you arrested for public drunkenness. This video shows the wilder side of the scene from those days and it is a window into a very important time for the nostalgia nitro movement. Pay attention to the chassis, the door cars, and whatever else you see running down the track and consider how much things have changed on the technological side of the sport. Also, pay close attention to another thing, the race tracks. You’ll see lots of empty bleachers at Famoso, you’ll see some really rough looking places, and you’ll see lots and lots of steel guardrail. That stuff was the industry standard for a long time but is not suitable for use anymore where really fast stuff is going to be running

This Lawn Tractor With A Rotary Engine Is The King Of Overpowered Yard Equipment

Image
We think this machine was built in Australia because there is some footage of it ripping donuts and burnouts in an Aussie power skid competition nearing the end of the video. We get to see the whole project come together, though. First there’s the little single rotor engine that gets fired up on a pallet, then there’s the tractor on a dyno with its rear tires being spun so hard and fast they look like they’re about to fly off the rims, then there is plenty of burnouts and donuts before some drag race style laps are made on the screaming former piece of lawn equipment. From the looks of the video, the tractor has a car style manual transmission. You can see the dude on the dyno manipulating the shifter at one point and it certainly looks like something yanked from a car. The rear end looks to be a severely narrowed unit from a Toyota truck. Those pieces are essentially miniature copies of a Ford 9″ and the housing sure looks like the ones we have seen under ‘Yota trucks before. The who

Goodwood Fun: Here’s 10 Wild, Weird, and Bodacious Touring Cars From Goodwood Over The Years That You Forgot About

Image
There’s just no way to remember everything, right? Some things just slip through the cracks of time and escape our memories No shame in that game, it’s called being human. Thankfully in 2021 we have this handy-dandy hive-mind known as the internet to constantly remind us of stuff both good and bad. This time it is reminding us of good stuff, 10 good things actually in the form of this video from the Goodwood YouTube channel that looks back at 10 of the most awesome touring cars of the event’s past. They are all kind of obscure in some sense, maybe weird in another, but the end result is 10 very different ways to go really fast in a full bodied car. Touring car racing has so many forms across the world. It makes sense that both manufacturers and enthusiasts want to compete with and watch the cars that they can identify seeing each day on the streets. As racing rules go, the ability to even what the hell some of these things are get interesting, but when the announcer calls it a Ford Ca

American Truck Historical Society Show Coverage: Classic Trucks Of All Shapes And Sizes On Display

We’ve got another great gallery of photos from the ATHS convention and truck show. Check them out below and if you missed any of our other photos then use the link below to see them too! This is one incredibly unique event as it features restored classics of all kinds, plus hot rod and show trucks. The restored classics are incredible, as the diversity of this show has commercial trucks of all kinds on display. Once we’ve cut one up or lowered it on the ground or built a ramp truck out of them, we sometimes forget just how big and awesome some of these commercial trucks were in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. (Words and Photos by Jim Hrody) For 2022, the American Truck Historical Society hosted its annual convention & truck show at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. Trucks of all sizes and eras were distributed throughout the grounds, roughly a thousand of them. Even a few farm tractors snuck in under the guise of flatbed cargo. As to be expected, all current

New Products: Holley Sniper EFI Fuel Tanks for 1974-1980 and 1981-1993 Dodge D100/D150 Trucks

There are a lot of parts that you can fabricate yourself in the shop. But just because you can, doesn’t always mean that doing so is the best option, the cheapest option, or the most efficient one. Take the new Dodge D-Series fuel tanks from Holley. These tanks are brand new, available for 1974-1993 Dodges, and can be outfitted with either high pressure EFI fuel pump modules, or low pressure modules for carbureted applications. Either way you end up with a cool running and efficient fuel system that has a brand new tank, mounting hardware, and filler that is outfitted with a brand new in tank pump. This is a great setup for anyone looking to replace worn old parts, or who’s planning a Gen III HEMI swap or something else fun. Here’s all the info from Holley, along with links to see them at Holley.com so you can get them for your project. The factory fuel tank in 1974-1993 Dodge D-series trucks is made from plastic and can often crack and deteriorate over time. Up until now, there have

Can Vice Grip Garage Get The LS1 Out Of This Corvette By Lifted Off The Body?

Image
If you think that lifting a car body off the chassis using a two post lift is a little wonky, then I can imagine that seeing Derek lift the body off of a Corvette using the four post lift will probably blow your mind or piss you off. But that’s exactly what Derek is trying to do in this video. He’s got a donor C5 Corvette that he wants the whole drivetrain out of, so he starts pulling bolts and then uses some not-so-big ratchet straps to reach around the entire body so it can be lifted up by the 4-post. It is entertaining as usual, but it really does go better than most might think. Since I worked alone for years, I’m pretty good at thinking up solutions like this one and I totally approve. I’m sure the guys at Wildfire Lifts also approve, I mean why wouldn’t they! C4 Perfection: The 1996 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport Was The Pinnacle Of The Fourth Generation’s Development

Image
The C4 Corvette has finally come out the other side of it’s days as an oft-joked about, rock bottom cheap, old sports car. Every car goes through the cycle. Cool when new, aging against a new model it looks less cool, then it enters the dark period of near worthlessness and ridicule. After that, they slowly become cool again, and after a while old guys who wanted them when new start paying stupid money to get hold of their childhood dream car. Remember, Roadkill effectively got off the ground hacking one to death and making all the Corvette purists angry. They chose the car they did because it was seen as something of little to no value and basically it was the butt of the joke. No longer! This look back at the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport makes us want a C4 real, real bad. The 330hp LT4 in this thing had it cooking, the big wheels and tires from the ZR1 made it handle like a monster, and in true Corvette fashion it delivered on performance numbers that cars three to four times its price

Anvil Off-Road 2021+ Ford Bronco Third Brake Light and Spare Tire Relocation Kits

Image
If you’ve ever upgraded the wheels and tires for your 4×4 SUV, then you have probably dealt with hanging your spare tire on the rear mount, only to find out it no longer fits since you made the tires and wheels larger. This new Anvil Off-Road kit solves that problem by relocating your spare tire enough to fit a 37 inch tall tire, and then raising the third brake light so you can see it over the top of the tire. Check out the details from Anvil below. Update your 2021-current Ford Bronco today with these two kits from Anvil Off-Road. You will be able to run a larger spare tire (up to 37-inch) using the spare tire relocation kit, which will move your spare tire outward and higher while reinforcing your tailgate, and the third brake light kit will move your third brake light 2.4-inches upwards to clear larger tires. Both systems bolt-on – there’s no cutting or drilling required, and there is no wiring needed with the third brake light relocation. All hardware is included, along with det

Mortske’s Abandoned1961 Chevrolet Bel Air Project: Nothing Different Colored Body Panels And A Donor Car Can’t Fix! Snow Donuts!

Image
We recently shared one of Mortske’s “will it run” videos where he took a 1961 Bel Air that had been sitting outside for 49 years and got it back up and running. To say that it is a 1961 Bel Air might be a bit of a stretch though because a ton of this car had been taken and used somewhere else in its life. We’re talking doors, windows, front sheet metal, etc. There was a ton of stuff that was either missing, or smashed, on this car. Of course, that didn’t slow Mortske down any because he knew there was potential here even if that potential was mostly for fun. But now that the car has been made to run, and has spent even more time sitting out in the snow, he feels guilty and wants to put this thing together to make ti roadworthy. Yes, roadworthy. Something someone could actually get in and drive without fear of it dying in 5 miles, falling out during that 5 mile drive, or being stranded in that 5 miles. It will take several parts sources, and a parts car, to make this all happen, but I

Absolutely Crazy Video: Unexpected Top End Engine Explosion Is Violent And Shocking

Image
This is a legitimately shocking video. We saw it on Drag Week gasser hero Dan Chisolm’s Facebook page and figured that we had to share it here. The video captures a Chevy big block top end explosion that happens on startup which is so violent that you literally cannot believe it. The fact that the three guys in this video weren’t killed instantly by shrapnel and flying steel is a miracle in and unto itself. So what happens? We can see the guys feeding fuel down the throats of the carbs on the engine in anticipation of firing up the engine. You’ll need to watch the video a couple of times to see all the stuff going on but as the engine is turning over you’ll see a small fire start on top of what looks like the top of the intake manifold. As the guy on the right moves the throttle linkage back and forth, introducing more and more fuel to the intake tract We’re not sure if some of the fire you can see gets sucked into the throat of a carb and ignites all the fuel or if an errant spark ig

Late 1970s Car Ad Video Bonanza: Dodge Trucks, Ford Trucks, Mercedes Station Wagons, and Even Some Buick Opel Love

Image
Here’s a fun cross section of the automotive advertising world circa the late 1970s and into the very early 1980s. We always love comparing some of the things that the manufacturers were doing back in the day to advertise their products. For instance the 1979 Dodge truck ad is very traditional. Show the truck, show it moving some stuff, show it shined up and working. The 1980 Ford F-150 ad is way different. That ad shows what seems to be 100 F-150s driving slowly in a massive back around the Hallett road course in the rain. We’re not sure what the messaging was supposed to be from that one. The last two are interesting only because they are both “foreign” brands from America and were considered, at least one of them anyway, the pinnacle of a foreign luxury car. No, we don’t mean Opel. We’re talking about the Mercedes wagon ad that you’ll watch below. The way they sold that car was not on a litany of options and packages but rather by showing the large wagon gracefully arcing its way b

This 1972 AMC JAVELIN DRAG CAR Was Built 40 Years Ago & Never Raced! Sally Speed Shop Road Tripped 1,000 Miles To Get It!

Image
When Jacob and his dad posted up that they were going on a road trip to acquire another epic AMC, I knew I was going to have to pay attention. I dig their collection of fun stuff, but this one is truly special. Check it out in Part 1 of the video series because this one is going to be interesting. And they’re filming a movie about finding it! Video Description: This time on Sally’s Speed Shop we load up in the C20 Service truck and hit the road for Wisconsin to pick up our latest project, a 1972 AMC Javelin that was built into a drag car 40 years ago but has never raced! It’s all the way in Wisconsin so we’ve got 1,000 mile drive to get there and we hit up PRI on the way! Follow along as we unearth the history on this incredible car and take it racing in 2023! Watch Second Generation Rally Racer Max Vatanen Scare His Legendary Dad Ari Half To Death In A Rally Car

Image
When your dad is one of the greatest rally drivers who ever lived and you have chosen to ply the same trade, you’ve got some immensely large shoes to fill. Such is the case with Max Vatanen the 25-year old son of Finnish rallying god Ari Vatanen a man who won Dakar four times and collected a WRC championship as well. In this video that we were tipped off to by Finnish BangShifter Jarmo Koivula we’ll see young Max attack a rally stage or practice course at absolute full bore as his famous dad is strapped into the passenger seat. While the elder Vatanen keeps his poker face on for most of the insanely fast run, he cracks a couple of times and then really opens up when the ride comes to an end. He admits to being scared witless during the trip and Max busts his chops because he was being told to brake in every corner. We love it. Perhaps the coolest part of the video is when Ari throws the kid the thumbs up multiple times. We’re assuming this is when he has really nailed a corner or done

Vigorous Test: This Look At The 1992 Acura Vigor Shows Why German Car Companies Were On The Run In The Early 1990s

Image
When the Japanese car companies launched their upscale brands in the late 1980s and early 1990s the German manufacturers were not only the benchmarks, they were the intended victims. Lexus, Infinity, and Acura were going to be sports-minded, upscale, luxury cars that would attempt to out-German the Germans. As we all know, those brands thrived and while the German companies took a shot to the solar plexus, they have also survived and thrived in their own way. This video showing a review for the 1992 Acura Vigor is a great way to look back and see these early attempts at unseating the king of the mountain. The Vigor was designed to slot itself right into the middle of the Acura line and it did so in size, in performance, and in power. Speaking of power, who remembers that these cars were driven by an inline five engine?! Yes, Honda manufactured an inline-five which we remembered nothing about. Equipped with a stick and a nicely tuned suspension, this thing was working hard to deliver t

Halfass Kustoms 1955 Chevrolet NAPCO 4×4 Project: Painting The Bed To Match The Cab’s Patina, And Fixing The Winch!

Image
In this latest installment of the NAPCO Clone build, Brent has painting to do on the bed to try and make it match up with the cab. This is going to take some technique and some trial and error to get these two parts to look like each other even though they never were on a truck together before. And he tries to put a winch together that he’s never worked on before. It’s not pretty, but ultimately it works! In 1956 GM actually offered NAPCO conversion from the factory so you could order it and pick one up

The Grubworm Camaro: FLAME SPITTING Stick Shift KING

Image
If you are a fan of stick shift drag cars, then you know the Grubworm Camaro. This thing has been setting H-Pattern Clutch Assisted stick shift records for several years now and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any, pun intended. When this car first ran 7’s everyone lost their minds. Then it just kept getting lower and lower into the 7’s. When it ran the first 6, people that it was impossible. But it just keeps getting better and better! We’re talking 6.61 at 216 miles per hour! Here’s a video from our friends at 1320Video of this famed ride going down the track at World Cup Finals where a new combo was being put through its paces. There are some tweaks and tuning still left to do on this combo, but how long do you think it will take before they are running 6.50s? Video Description: We ran into one of our favorite stick shift cars at World Cup Finals, Grubworm! Not only is it one of our favorites, it holds the world record for quickest stick shift car with a 6.61 at 216mph! They s

American Truck Historical Society Show Coverage: More Classic Trucks Of Every Shape And Size!

As to be expected, all current truck brands were well represented. Video: For A Brief Shining Moment In 1994 Rhode Island Had A Drag Strip Again

Image
Rhode Island is no stranger to the sport of drag racing. Between competitors like Bob Tasca and the high performance legacy of his family and the history of places like Charlestown Dragway in the southern part of the state from the 1950s, the sport has roots in the USA’s smallest state. That being said, once Charlestown closed for good, the state was left stripless, seemingly for good. That was before Al Smyth of PortaTree timing systems went on kind of crusade to open a race track in Rhode Island. As a way to get his point across to officials that a track would be both popular and helpful to the local economy he was able to get a temporary drag strip set up in Quonset Point, which at the time was an area that had nothing but a submarine factory and a Naval Station located on it’s sprawling area. The wide open spaces, lack of residential hassles, and existing runways on “the point” made it a no brainer setup. Guess what? It worked. 500+ cars showed up along with (as reported) thousand

Mini Jeep Adventures Part 3: Bombs, Salt, And Smoke Are Not Looking Good For This 1,000 Mile Road Trip

Image
Well, the first video was good, the second seemed promising, and the third….. well it’s a sh!t show. It is. There isn’t anything that is going right in this one, but the litte “Jeep” keeps plugging away. I have to say, there are dozens of times during this series that I have thought he is completely doing it wrong, and on multiple occasions I was right. With that said, I still love it. I don’t want to, but I do, and you should watch it so you can love it too. Will he make it? Will he live through it? There are bombs in this one. Like real bombs. Watch. Yep, he’s driving a Mini Jeep, like the kind you see on sale on Facebook Marketplace, 1,000 miles from one end of Utah to the other. Wow. Now, this sounds like a really stupid idea, but one that I would TOTALLY do. I say this because it is absolutely the kind of dumb thing that some of my friends and I would think up and want to do. I mean we’ve planned cross country road trips on mini bikes, so this isn’t really out of our wheelhouse

American Truck Historical Society Show Coverage! Classic Trucks Of Every Shape And Size!

(Words and Photos by Jim Hrody) For 2022, the American Truck Historical Society hosted it’s annual convention & truck show at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. Trucks of all sizes and eras were distributed throughout the grounds, roughly a thousand of them. Even a few farm tractors snuck in under the guise of flatbed cargo. As to be expected, all current truck brands were well represented. But wasn’t expecting the relatively high count of the dead brands such as Hendrickson, Marmon, Diamond Reo, Diamond T, and even a few Studebakers. The American Powertrain Parting Shift: Tommy Godfrey Drags The Bumper And Bangs Through The Gears!

Image
This is a quick and cool video which was taken by Greg Novac, featuring multi-time NMRA Factory Stock champion Tommy Godfrey. In it, you will see this Pure Street legal Mustang making a test pass at Maryland International Raceway. Two things become apparent as soon as the driver lets out the clutch. Thing one is that the traction at MIR is REALLY good and the second is that the Mustang may need a couple pounds of weight in the nose to keep the launches from becoming weather reports like this one was. The license plate on the car is as awesome as the car itself and the fact that it HAS a license plate is cool because we’re assuming that the car is street legal and if it can wheelie like this on the street, we bet it can get at least a little altitude on the street. The combo in the car is cool. 311ci small block, T-5 transmission, 26×10-15 slicks, and a curb weight of 2900lbs. This is a nine second car and being that we’ve attended a few NMRA events this season, we can tell you straigh

Historic Racing Video: The Night Kenny Roberts Rode the Wildest Dirt Track Bike of All Time

Image
“King” Kenny Roberts is an American motorcycle racing legend. He rose from the ranks of American dirt tracks to become a multi-time champion at the highest levels of motorcycle racing, including Grand Prix. During his career, there is a singular bike and a singular race that may define him more than any other. The Yamaha TZ750 he sat on top of one night in Indy during the summer of 1975 was considered an over engined, under chassied death trap. Boiled down, Yamaha shoved a 120hp road racing engine in a dirt track chassis, patted him on the back and told him to have at it. How insane was this thing? Roberts said that he had to throw it sideways at 150mph in order to slow enough to make it around the corners on the one mile dirt oval in Indy. He started in the last place position, took the lead on the final lap and cemented his place in American motorsports lore. The bike met the same fate when it was banned from competition just a scant few weeks after the race. Roberts’ famous quote

Iron Trap 1932 Ford “DeLorean” Roadster: First Time Driving On The Road Since 1954!!

Image
This week’s video has Matt taking advantage of all the hot rod stuff they have done to the roadster! It’s time for it’s first drive in almost 70 years. That’s insane, and we love it! This thing has been built as period correct as is possible, but it is NOT a restoration. This car has been lovingly refreshed and rebuilt to look like it’s been driving its whole life. I love this car and the way it is turning out is great. There are still a couple touches to make to it, but this is the first time it is driving under its own power on the road since 1954 . Wow. Great job guys. Iron Trap has got all kinds of great projects, but this ’32 Ford Roadster is going to be something. It’s weird to see them getting new parts for a car like this, but it is the right choice to make this car as “original” as possible. Check out the two videos below that show how this project is getting started and then follow along as we’ll bring you regular updates. CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED ANY OF THIS VIDEO SERIES
