Wray Schelin’s ProShaper: English Wheeling Made Simple!

Image
Wray Schelin is a badass when it comes to metal shaping and we’ve learned a lot by watching him work. In this video you are going to not only learn about English wheel techniques, but also about English wheels themselves and what you should look for. Keep in mind, if you can only afford a cheapo English wheel then don’t let that stop you from getting one. Will it be ideal, no, but will it help you learn and make some cool parts? Yes! Video Description: English Wheeling Made Simple Since the last video we’ve done, we’ve gained a plethora of new subscribers so we went back to the basics and created another English Wheel video using our “Youtube English Wheel”. In this video, Wray discusses the good and the bad between different English Wheel frames and what you should expect. Wray then goes over the differences between an Upper adjuster and lower adjuster and why he prefers one to the other. He explains the different radiused lower anvils and when you should use them and finally he b

Steve Morris Says This Is The Baddest LS Engine Ever ! Pt 1

Image
Steve Morris is always going on about “Top Secret” stuff in engine building, just like our friend Peter Harrell at HED. We laugh at this because both of them are real bad at keeping secrets and tell everyone everything. In this video, Steve is going over his all Billet Aluminum LS engine combo. This is the ultimate LS drag and drive combo, but it is not for the weak-hearted. Check this thing out. Video Description: This is the Most Powerful Most Durable LS Style All Billet Drag and Drive Engine That Will Drop Right in Your current LS combo. This is a multi-part video series where I am going to show you the complete build and go over the top secret stuff ! The post Steve Morris Says This Is The Baddest LS Engine Ever ! The Make It Kustom Mini 1956 Buick Project: It Runs! Plus Fabricating A Bunch Of Stuff To Hold The Body Down!

Image
It runs and it drives! After getting a bunch of folks saying it wouldn’t run with the fuel system he fabbed up, Karl gets the engine, fuel system, and drive all together to make sure it will work. Then takes it for a test drive! And quickly realizes that a body latching system is required before the shenanigans get more serious. If you missed any of the Mini Buick build, click the link below. In this episode of the build, Karl is building some cool new stuff after getting it sitting on white walls, building a chassis, building structure for the body, and ultimately making it flip up like a funny car. Karl Fisher at Make It Kustom has been answering lots of questions about a little miniature car that has been sitting in the background for the past few weeks and finally decided to share with us all what is going on with this cool little ride. The back story is that a friend of his started building this thing from a car that was so rusted out as to only have some little, but iconic, are

The Pratt & Whitney J58 – Tour The Engine Behind The SR-71 Blackbird With A Guy That Worked On Them For 20 Years

Image
Arnie Gunderson worked on the Pratt and Whitney J58 for two decades, so who better to walk you around when touring one at the Air Zoo? This is a killer aerospace and science museum in Michigan that is affiliated with the Smithsonian and that means awesomeness. Arnie would ultimately become the head engineer on the J58 portion of the SR-71 program and has some cool stories he probably can’t even talk about. It is capable of Mach 3.2 at 80,000 feet, is a single spool turbo jet, and is running on air that is 800 degrees Fahrenheit. This thing is an insane engineering marvel that grows 6 inches in length and 2.5 inches in diameter when it is at full song. Yeah, it’s crazy and that is just one of the cool things that is going on here. The technology inside this engine, which is now decades old, is nuts. If you dig rocket science you need to watch this. We can’t even touch on the stuff that Arnie is talking about here because there is so much cool going on. Video Description: The Air Zoo

Project Allegro Part 4: Strut Towers And Inner “Wings” Mean This Thing Is Becoming A Car Again!

Image
Here’s Part 3 of this cool new project build. The front suspension is going together and geometry is at the forefront. This one is going to be pretty impressive when done. We love project vehicles around here and are always looking for new ones that really stretch the imagination, have awesome creativity, are done at a whole other level of fabrication, or just inspire us. Sometimes they do all of the above. This project here is one that we had to look up because we didn’t even know what an Allegro was, but it turns out to be an Austin-Morris that was a little compact car available in a 2-door, 4-door, and even a 2-door wagon at some point in it’s life. They were of course a little British car that we didn’t see here in the states. So what does someone do if they want one to be a sleeper that hauls ass but looks pretty tame? K20 swap it of course! Since the highest horsepower rating ever given to an Allegro was 90hp, even an ultra mellow 200 horsepower K20 is going to be a rocket in

This Promotional Film For The 1955 Chevrolet Is Awesome Propaganda

Image
We clearly love old promotional films around here. We run basically all of them that we can find. Why? They are fun and sometimes funny but they are also a great window into how the companies building the cars wanted them marketed and sold, right? In the case of this promotional film for the 1955 Chevrolet, performance was a clear part of the equation. We’re guessing that the engineers and executives at Chevrolet knew that they had a winner on their hands with this car but we can hardly believe that they figured it would turn into something so iconic as would the following 1956 and 1957 models. These cars truly captured the American public’s desires and they sold them as fast as they could build them. What we also love about these things is the fact that they are absolutely propaganda films. Of course the Chevrolet is going to dominate every test and win every sort of challenge. How could it not? The idea is the make the viewer believe that this product is so far superior to anything

Watch This 1970s Can-Am Big Block Chevy Rip Out 750hp On The Dyno

Image
Bruce McLaren was one of the most gifted, talented, driven, and respected men in the world of racing during his time on this Earth. His company, driven by the creative genius of its leader was a dominant force in multiple forms of racing from open wheel to enclosed wheel cars like those in the Can-Am series. McLaren’t death in the early 1970s was a tragedy but it illustrated the strength of the operation he had created. How? McLaren today is one of the most successful Formula One racing operations, a producer of hypercars, and a design/engineering firm that has their hands in a little bit of everything. The Can-Am series was a place where McLaren and his cars excelled. This brutally fast brand of road racing drew the greatest drivers in the world and for their time they were the most hairy road race cars in the known universe. Ultra lightweight and powered by either big V8 engines or turbocharged smaller engines, horsepower was a huge factor in being successful. We’re talking about ca

4XFred Williams Shares His Cool Single Axle, Dual Wheel, Jeep Trailer

Image
Everytime Fred puts up a photo that has his single axle Jeep trailer in it people ask all kinds of questions. And with good reason, since it is weird to see a single axle trailer for hauling a Jeep. And then there is the fact that the single axle is actually a dually axle. I mean that’s just the start because it also has no fenders, is barely wider than the Jeeps it hauls, and has features specific to hauling off-road rigs. I dig it. It’s different, it’s cool, and knowing Fred there was a lot of thought that went into it. Because he gets so many questions and such he decided to do a walk around video about the trailer and tell us all the details. Check it out below. Video Description: Lots of people ask me about this trailer. Its a custom car hauler with a single axle and dually wheels. It’s followed me across America multiple times and tows awesome! Little Truck Big Punch: This 1944 Video Shows An Experimental Jeep Mounted Rocket Launcher System Being Tested

Image
Now THIS is a mighty mite! As we all know, there was constant innovation and invention during WWII. After all, nothing spurs the human mind on like figuring out ways to knock out the bad guys. For better or worse, war causes people to go into mental hyperdrive and the ideas just flow like a river. As fighting was progressing in 1944 and the war was definitely working in the favor of the Allies, more and more offensive weapons were being developed to help break the ranks and the will of the enemy. With the Jeep being a smashing success in basically every job it had ever been assigned to work, it made sense to convert the tough little bastards into weapons systems as well. Jeeps had been developed with tank killing recoilless rifles and these were effective because the little Jeeps were so mobile, they could shuck and jive while trying to take out the bad guys. In this case though, it was assault rockets that were being developed. The Russians had a truck mounted system that was a littl

Watch This Scale Porsche Flat Six Fire Up And Make Really Wild Noises!

Image
We love scale engines of all shapes and sizes, including ones that aren’t in a V-shape with eight cylinders screaming. Take this incredible Porsche flat six for example that was hand crafted by a Dutch racing driver who just so happens to be a huge Porsche guy. Who saw that coming, right? Anyway, the air-cooled Porsche flat six is as iconic an engine as any company in history has ever produced. It has powered some of the most well known sports and race cars in history all while making that angry boxer noise that it became so famous for. Yes, this one makes much the same type of noise although it is a little more soprano than the full sized version. Our wonder with these engines comes in when you consider having to hand make things like the carbs and how the builders are able to get them into such exacting detail. Then there’s stuff like the ignition system, the rotating assembly, and the simply fact is just because the stuff is small doesn’t mean is can be sloppy. If your tolerances a

Check Out This 6×6 Engesa EE-25 Army Truck And It’s Freaky Boomerang Rear Suspension In Action

Image
Army trucks, we love them. Why? Well for the same reason we love functional hot rods that are lacking in amenities but are heavy in ass kicking ability. No matter the country of origin you are typically not going to find a lot of cushy stuff in an army truck, especially a large one. They are loaded full of ability, though and that’s exactly what caught our eye when it comes to this Brazilian 6×6 Engesa EE-25 and its awesome Boomerang rear axle. The truck uses a walking beam style layout but it can articulate in some incredible ways to keep the rears planted while the rest of the chassis rises to some pretty steel angles. Quoting a story on the rear suspension: The suspension of the EE-25 utilizes live axles and leaf springs, the rear suspension having a conspicuous “Engasa Boomerang” walking beam, a feature seen on several other Engesa 6-wheeled military vehicles. This suspension articulates, allowing the EE-25 to traverse large undulations with greatly increased traction, handling,

This 1968 Ford Truck Commercial Is Crazy And Had To Have Been Fun To Make! Full On Beat-Downs!

Image
In any sort of job, there are highs and lows. There are things that are fun to do, things that are not so fun, stuff you love, and stuff you hate, right? This actually has to apply to stunt or precision drivers as well. These are the guys you see in commercials driving cars, trucks, and performing the stunts therein. We’re going to guess that when this group drivers got called to participate in a 1968 Ford truck commercial about big rigs, dump trucks, and other yeoman-like vehicles they were not thinking that it would be all that much fun. Boy were they wrong. This sports themed commercial shows all kinds of winter sports like Bobsled, skiing, luge, and that type of junk. Somehow we’re guessing the performance of the trucks is supposed to mimic or relate to the athlete’s strength, skill, and prowess? Either way, we don’t really give a crap about that as much as we do the absolutely awesome beat job that gets laid on these trucks. The little Transit thing is OK, it looks kind of neat

This 1980s Tamiya Promotional Video Rules: F-150, Sand Scorcher, and Rough Rider

Image
There are some things that I find myself wanting in waves and I am guessing most of you have felt this way, too. Some days you wake up and think, “Today I’m gonna buy X,Y, or Z thing.” By the time you go to bed you have talked yourself out of it or just not pulled the trigger for one of 100 different reasons. That’s exactly where I am on scoring an old school or at least a modern version of the old school Tamiya remote control cars and trucks I wanted so bad as a kid. My problem is that I’m never home to use the thing and when I am home I am normally busy doing stuff that would leave me staring at the R/C car as it rotten on a shelf. Adulthood! The connection/fascination I have for these things definitely got going in the 1980s and seeing the ads for the vehicles in magazines and videos I’d beg my parents to buy me. The Clod Hopper, The Lunch Box, the F-150 seen here, etc. All of that junk completely sucked me in. So hard that I see these videos now and think, “I NEED one of those!” T

Interior How To: Make A Headliner For Your Classic Truck!

Image
Upholstery can be so intimidating to do, even if you are just installing door panels or seat covers, so the thought of actually making your own headliner for a classic truck almost seems like a pipe dream. Well, may not. Watch this video to see how a new headliner goes together and is installed in a 1956 Chevrolet truck. This is no beater truck either, but rather a super nice build that really needs custom interior to look right. I know some really great upholstery guys. I mean some seriously badass talent that wins awards all the time. But I can’t afford that, not by a long shot. So when I see these interior how-to videos I think to myself that I could do some of these. I am inspired to go out and get myself a sewing machine to try out some panels and see what I can do for my own ride. How about you? Would you try your hand at upholstery after seeing this straightforward video? The post Interior How To: Make A Headliner For Your Classic Truck! appeared first on BangShift.com .

Polishing Turds: Episode #9 Engine Assembly Prep Can Make The Difference Between Real Power And No Power

Image
In this new episode of the Polishing Turds series from HED you are going to see the ins and outs of pre-assembly engine prep. It matters. No, really it does and if you don’t prep things right then you can cost yourself power, reliability, and longevity which all sucks. This is an ultra plain jane small block build, that has no fancy parts, but HED is going to show just how much of a power difference using the right processes, and doing them right, can make in an engine like this. It’s no wonder these things matter so much in high dollar, big power combos. Watch. learn more stuff, and if you haven’t seen all the parts in this series then use the link below to watch them all and learn something. Some of this series is of course done with tongue firmly in cheek, but the real stuff is still happening and you can learn a lot. Check it out. When Peter Harrell, owner of Harrell Engine and Dyno, decided that he was going to start up a YouTube Channel of his own, he decided to call it “Real G

The Hot Rod Hoarder Visits The Tri Five Nationals 2022 – Old School EVERYTHING!

Image
Tommy Lee Byrd is showing off all the cool stuff he found at the Tri Five Nationals in Bowling Green Kentucky this year! And man did he find some cool stuff. Besides the normal selection of killer cars, there are lots of parts, lots of special cars, and more tri five action than you can shake a stick at. Watch Tommy’s latest video and you’ll see what we’re talking about. This is some cool stuff. Video Description: When I go to an event like the Tri Five Nationals, I wear many hats. I photograph the event for a magazine…in this case, Modern Rodding. In addition to the print magazine coverage, I provided social media content for Modern Rodding, All Chevy Performance and Classic Truck Performance magazines. I also post social media content on Coker Tire’s Instagram and Facebook page. I did a total of six photo shoots for various publications. Yet somehow, I still find time to enjoy myself, so in this video, I wanted to show some of the stuff I liked during a day of walking the property

Daddy Dave’s S10 is Back! New Street Outlaws OG 405 Show

Image
The last time we saw Dave’s S10 the thing had a couple rods hanging out of it at the conclusion of a fairly expensive weekend full of engine damage that started when he blew up the engine in the Nova. Despite all this, Dave was smiling and laughing and having a good time. It was fun. I mean I’d have crawled under a rock and cried myself to sleep but Dave just shrugged and laughed it off. I even made him a very generous offer to buy the truck as a roller, well more to take the pile off his hands so he didn’t have to look at it anymore, but he declined. Oh well. Video Description: You have all heard about the new Street Outlaws OG Show we are shooting and I have a few things up my sleeve, but the S10 is back! I drop some updates, secrets and we all get back to our roots with the Classic Car Meridian Cruise and Street Rod Nationals. The whole OKC gets together to reminisce, talk about where we came from and the new small tire show. The post Daddy Dave’s S10 is Back! New Street Outlaw

Gen III Hemi Swapped C10 Budget Build – Introducing The HemiHalf. Engine And Trans Are In!

Image
Here is Part 3 of the Gen III HEMI C10 build that Derek has dubbed the HemiHalf. In the first video, they tore the truck apart, and in the second one a fuel system, some engine bay prep, and more happened. In this episode the engine and transmission are finally in! Well, they go in during the video anyway. Check it out. The thought process here is that every conceivable vehicle on earth has already been LS swapped, so we need to start switching it up, and what better way to do that than to stuff a Gen III HEMI into a square body Chevrolet pickup that would have come with a small block Chevrolet most likely. After all, square body GM trucks are prime candidates for LS swaps and it seems like it is getting harder and harder to find them with a small or big block still in them at any car shows and events. I happen to love LS engines, but I own both small block and big block powered rides as well. I’m what you call an equal opportunity GM power fanatic. But putting a HEMI into a squarebo

Junk To Jewel: 1974 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Ultimate Transformation!! Saved from the Scrapyard!

Image
Mortske is always at it, and this cool K5 Blazer that he did a transformation on was one we dug. I have to say that he’s pretty good at these kind of things and this one is particularly cool since it was missing it’s axles and suspension when he got it. Why is this cool? Because he made it into a two-wheel drive truck while making it roll again and then swapped an engine and trans from a donor as well. Now it’s time for it to become even cooler. Watch. Video Description: I picked up this derelict 1974 Blazer that can be seen in the junkyard tour video for $100. The axles and some other parts had been long gone but I’ve always wanted a 2WD Blazer and the full removable top makes it even better! I located a 1977 Chevy C10 2WD donor pickup for the suspension and other trinkets and used my 1975 Chevy G30 van from the burnout video for the drivetrain. Follow along as we get this scrap heap back on the road! We found this 1974 Chevy K5 Blazer missing it’s axles and suspension laying in

Over 2,500 registered vehicles at this event and they came out in force. With the weather being just about perfect, there was no excuse not to head to Beech Bend Park for some Tri-Five action. Walking around there wasn’t a bad on the grounds. Every variation of the Tri-Five was on hand from Nomad wagons, to four door sedans. Don’t forget from 150’s all the way up to Bel Air’s as well. Murder Nova’s Street Outlaws EndGame Build Part 4: Dyno Testing, Track Testing, And Some Street Hits!

Image
This is Part 4 of the Caprice Convertible build for the new Street Outlaws Endgame and Shawn and the crew have been getting after it. They got it together enough to run it on the dyno and even make some test hits with it, including a few on the street. Lets see what this thing can do! When Shawn decided he wanted a donk, he went big with his 1975 Caprice convertible. The car is cool, has been capable of doing some road trips after getting a little love, and makes Shawn smile. Since this is his car, that’s all that matters. I’m not a huge fan of big wheel cars, but they have gotten more and more impressive as the big wheel “Donk” drag racing scene has grown. Now guys are building big wheel cars that are full tube chassis rides. So when Discovery announced that they were going to do a new Street Outlaws spin off that had several of their big stars building a car and then racing them heads up, Shawn knew what he wanted. Whether this turns out to be a smart move or not remains to be seen

DIY MegaCab Bumpside Ford Project: The Roof Is Huge And A Van Is Going To Give Up Some For This Cool Project

Image
Here we go with Part 4 of this custom-built crew cab, or MegaCab as they are calling it, bumpside Ford pickup and in this episode there is a lot of roof going on. Because of the way they are building this thing the cab is longer than a factory crew cab, hence the MegaCab name. Because of this there is some serious roof going on and a lot of structure is needed that doesn’t exist in the truck cabs. Luckily an old Ford van they have was willing to give up some parts. Well maybe not willing, but it did. Watch them tear it apart, it’s fun. Yes these trucks came with 4-doors from the factory, but in very limited quantities. Plus, these dudes had two junk standard cabs that they wanted to see if they could make something good out of. Well if they can pull this off, then this certainly will qualify as something good. I’m loving watching it go together and if this doesn’t inspire you to grab your welder, I don’t know what will. If you missed the first two videos, use the link below to check

How To Use The Eastwood Fender Roller – Tips and Tricks

Image
Back in the day, we used to jack up a car a little bit and then put a baseball bat on top of the tire so that when we lowered the car back down we could roll it backwards and forwards to “roll” the fender lip or “flare” it a bit for more tire clearance. And this works! But it certainly is not as good as using a specific fender rolling tool like the one you can buy at Eastwood. There are others available as well, but they are all pretty much the same with regards to layout and use. But how do you use them correctly? And what are some tips and tricks that will make your fender lip manipulation work best? Check them out in this video from Eastwood. That’s Bad, Right? This Screaming Diesel Truck Burns Tires And Then Catches On Fire!

Image
This modified diesel truck is pretty wild but we’re not sure it is intended to be as wild as it is in this video. The truck is laid down on the ground, the engine has been moved behind the cab, the wheelbase has been stretched, and it has enough power to literally vaporize tires. The engine we mentioned sounds a lot like a Detroit Diesel of the 12-cylinder variety. The engine has a couple of turbos on top of it and it sounds heavenly when the driver gets the thing revved up and working. We don’t know if the truck is just a burnout machine or if it gets drag raced, etc. The fun starts with the truck roasting tires and spinning a donut. Then there is a second and more awesome burnout where the black smoke is rolling, the white tire smoke is rolling and then the orange flames are rolling. Whoops. Yeah, the fire was an unintentionally added part of the show and this is not a little one. It gets hot enough to start melting stuff and as you’ll see, before the engine is shut off it seems lik

Epic Video: Watch Don Rickles Roast Evel Knievel In The 1970s! (Those Easily Offended…skip it)

Image
The late Don Rickles was an American treasure. One of the funniest guys who ever lived, he made a great life for himself as a comedian who could and would literally burn people to the ground and have them laughing the whole way he did it. In this case, Evel Knievel (and everyone else he sees) is the target as this was some sort of 1970s televised roast series and boy it is amazing. The amazement for us is twofold because, one, this was an era of humanity where people had a sense of humor and hides thicker than onion skin. It is also amazing because one of the world’s greatest egomaniacs is at the center of attention on this night and not in the glowing light of love he usually was addressed with. If you are someone that is easily offended by humorous takes on people and life, this is not for you. Everyone in that room and in the home viewing audience was glued to these things. Why? Because the funniest people in the country got to turn it loose on someone that everyone else knew. It i

Ride Shotgun In A Swamp Buggy As it Runs Full Bore Around The Mile O Mud In Florida!

Image
Like many of you, I have waned to drive a swamp buggy since I was a kid in the 1980s and watched them tear up the famed Mile O Mud in Florida. Well this video from the Sims Racing YouTube page takes us and puts us right on the shoulder of the driver as he hauls ass around the track, through the famed ‘Sippi hole, and roars down the straights in front of the crowd. There’s a bellowing engine that we assume is a big block Chevy and there’s plenty of swampy water flying around to keep everyone happy. We dig watching and listening to the driving technique here. You can hear the driver on and off the throttle at different points, perhaps to let the semi-boat like features of the buggy do its job in deeper water? The engine sounds sweet singing along at like 7,000 RPM on the straights. This form of racing is so fascinating because it exists in one place on planet Earth. There are not many forms of motorsports that are this specialized. In fact, we cannot really come up with another one. Th

Historic Video: Don Garlits’ Other Blow Over Came Out Of Nowhere In Spokane, Washington Circa 1987

Image
It was June 12th 1986 when Don Garlits first experienced a top fuel blow over. That iconic moment and the images/videos that flowed from it are well documented in the annals of drag racing. Far fewer people remember, or have ever seen the blow over that he suffered the following year in Spokane, Washington. The car that Garlits flipped in New Jersey was Swamp Rat XXX and the reasons for that blow over are different than the one he had in Spokane. The E-town incident happened after a fairly protracted staging process where more fuel was burned than planned and a light nose on the car combined with big downforce from the rear wing, sent the machine into a majesties pirouette routine that they’re still talking about today. In Spokane, the action was far scarier. After debuting Swamp Rat 31 in Brainerd, Minnesota the week previous, Don Garlits and crewman Mark Buchanan went to Orville Moe’s ADRA event in Spokane, Washington hoping to build on the successful runs they had made in Minnesota

This 1980s Caterpillar Promotional Video For The 785 Off-Highway Haul Truck Is EPIC – From Engine Building On Up!

Image
My love for promotional sales videos is well known here. They provide a cool look inside different companies and products from the past and to me, they are fun to watch. None of them has been as fun to watch as this high budget, highly produced look at the Caterpillar 785 off-highway haul truck which was new at the time of this video’s creation. This truck had a 150-ton capacity, a 51.8L V-12 engine, 1,380hp, and a six speed automatic transmission to get the power to the axles. Designed to be worked 24 hours a day for as long as a mine needed it to be working between service intervals the machines are as rugged as they are huge. Being that this is a Caterpillar video and it was pitching trucks that cost millions of dollars (we’re assuming) to buy, no expense is spared here. The production value is higher than most 1980s television shows…by a lot. The music, the narration, how it was actually shot. All of it is feature film worthy. The talk about how the trucks are developed and test

RESCUED: 1962 Corvette!! Parked Right Here In 1970 And Left!!

This 1962 Corvette is in rough shape, but given the fact that it has been sitting for 52 years that is understandable. The post RESCUED: 1962 Corvette!! Parked Right Here In 1970 And Left!! appeared first on BangShift.com . https://ift.tt/LVKfOn4 from BangShift.com https://ift.tt/JpvKlHG

Watch A Massive 16-Cylinder Waukesha Engine Get Its Top End Overhauled In Time Lapse!

Image
Internal combustion engines are having it rough right now. They are being attacked on all sides by people who want the world to be dominated by electric shavers on wheels. We get it, we understand, but we also grimace when we hear these machines get trashed by people who do not know anything about them. The refined, modular, and evolutionary nature of the internal combustion engine is something that humans have been working on for more than 100 years. From the tiny engines in model airplanes to monsters like you will see below, there’s an engine for every job and a job for every engine. This is a 16-cylinder Waukesha APG 1000 natural gas engine that is clearly in some sort of industrial environment. The thing weighs 30,000lbs dry and it is designed to make 1,495hp for years, and years, and years on end without sweating, grunting, or going down. Like all engines there are wear parts and there’s a maintenance schedule that needs to be kept up and that is what we are going to see here. B

Clay Millican Walks Us Through This Massive Engine Explosion He Had In Topeka

Image
Boom! We’ve seen plenty of big engine explosions on the dragstrip, like the one we saw with Doug Kalitta a few days ago, but rarely do we get a glimpse into them from the perspective of the driver and car owner. Clay Millican is one who always shares what is going on, and has been so forthcoming in his experiences over the years and this is no different. Watch this video and learn not only what happened but what the carnage is afterward. In fact, the team goes over the damage and the data. It’s pretty cool. And boy is the carnage insane. This thing broke everything from the top to the bottom. The injector hat, which is an insanely expensive piece of carbon fiber is broke in a BIG way and all the stuff below it is hurt as well. Dropping a valve is what it seems caused the carnage, but you need to check it out yourself. It’s eye opening. A Perfect Summer Night For A Sonic Cruise-In: Local Cruise Night Photos

(Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) I had a wonderful Thursday evening the other week. It has been a hot and muggy August here in Southeastern Pennsylvania but on this night in particular the temps and humidity relented just long enough for a bunch of friends and like-minded folks to get their hot rods out for a nice relaxing gathering at our local Sonic Drive-In. The Sonic in Morgantown, Pa was hosting a large Thursday night cruise night for many years, I have even chronicled a few on BangShift , but like many things, the pandemic put a halt to them. Yet, even as we mostly emerged from that nightmare and things returned to normal, the weekly cruise nights never really got going again. A few stalwarts would show up and hang out but not even close to the original numbers from previous years. But this particular week a buddy of mine, James Joyce made post on Facebook, stating simply, “Let’s hang out at Sonic this week! Who’s in?” Others commented that they were in and suddenly it seemed li

Barn Find 1958 Plymouth Project: It’s Time For The Engine Swap

Image
With the stock engine junk, and the replacement all sorted and set, it is time for the engine swap to begin! Yep, this cool old 4-eyed Plymouth is going to get a new lease on life and will be back to running and driving before we know it. But first, the engine needs to find its way into its new home. I’m not a Moparsman… I’m a GM guy. Chevrolet in particular. But I love the cars and trucks that came out in 1958. Seriously, 1958 had awesome cars and trucks from just about every manufacturer. That’s a long way of saying that even though I’m not a big Mopar guy, I totally dig this 1958 Plymouth barn find. I mean barn finds are awesome anyway, but just look at the nose on this bad boy! I’m not a big fins fan, but the back of this bad boy isn’t bad looking either. Dylan found a really cool one here, but it could be A LOT of work to make it run right. Will it run at all? We’re all about to find out. CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THE PREVIOUS VIDEOS  Video Description: Heck yes it’s V8 time!

Iron Trap Model A Shop Truck: Building A Seat For Just $100

Image
The finishing touches are going into the Model A shop truck and part of that is getting a nice place to sit. But in the spirit of this project, Matt and the gang are not just going to throw some old seat in it, but rather put one together themselves just like everything else on this project. And for $100 they have turned out a pretty good seat that I think works like a champ in this ride. Watch in the video below. This project is coming along and I can’t wait to see it done! The Model A Shop Truck project has been going hot and heavy for months, and the boys have really been making awesome headway on it, but it has never been this close to being a driver! Recent episodes of the build had headers being built, wiring getting done, a fuel system, and ultimately making the flat head run for the first time in the chassis. It also got a coat of paint on the front bits to match the super good patina on the bed. I’m super stoked to see this project running down the road and to see the guys wi

2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition Released: Retro-Cool Look or Trying Too Hard For Cash?

Image
(By Tom Lohnes) –  If you want to compete in sales with the Jeep Wrangler, there has to be a steady flow of special-edition vehicles leaving factory floors alongside the normal versions. Ford has introduced plenty of new Bronco models since it came out in 2020, but there hasn’t been a Wrangler-style special edition yet. Well, one is here. Meet the 2023 Ford Bronco Heritage and Heritage Limited Edition. First of all, the naming of the retro-styled Broncos is sort of confusing. The standard Bronco Heritage edition is based on the near-base Big Bend model, but it comes standard with all sorts of goodies, such as the sasquatch off-road package, a new-for-2023 H.O.S.S (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) 3.0 setup that is only optional on the top-spec Wildtrak model. Good news for Bronco purists,  you can get a 2-door, manual-transmission Heritage model with all of the cool visual upgrades. Speaking of visuals, the heritage might be the coolest Bronco to date. Available in a sp

Breathtaking Video: The Wide World of Sports Coverage Of The 1966 NHRA US Nationals Is Full Of Legends

Image
It’s always amazing when “new” footage of classic drag racing hits the internet and this ABC Wide World of Sports video from the 1966 NHRA US Nationals is just fantastic. Hosted by the legendary Keith Jackson and featuring the semi-final and final rounds of both Top Stock and Top Fuel Eliminator, you will see Grumpy Jenkins, Jere Stahl, Don Prudhomme, Danny Ongais, Mike Snivley, and more. It’s just so awesome when you add in the interviews with drivers, fans, and the overall spectacle of IRP (yes, it is now known as Indianapolis Raceway Park again!) on the sport’s biggest day. The magic of Monday at Indy returns to the world of NHRA drag racing in 2022 and there is nothing else like it. You’ll hear Jackson talk about the “sit out car” when mentioning the Hawaiian dragster a few times. People may be confused by this, but back then the concept was simple. Whoever won Top Fuel class eliminations earlier in the weekend got to sit out until the final round to race the competitor who had sm

Awesome Engine Rebuild: Bringing A Packard V-12 Back To Life In Big Time Detail

Image
If we started the day with a kind of strange engine in the form of that twin NSU home built project, we continue with one of the best engines ever. This video goes through every step of the rebuilding of a V12 Packard and it is amazing. Not just because we get to see this cool engine but because of how much care and precision goes into make it right and putting it back together properly. This engine shop has to undo some crummy work of a previous shop that tried and failed to get the engine right. We won’t give that secret away, you can see for yourself. The funny thing to us is that when you see the equipment and ability that this restoration shop has, we want you to think about the factories and equipment used to build these engines. There is more badassery in the Rottler machine doing the valve job than there was in any part of the original assembly of that V12. In theory, the engine is actually far better than it ever was out of the box after going through what can only be describ

Interesting History: This Study On The Evolution Of NASCAR Tracks Is Fascinating – How’d It Happen?

Image
This is a really interesting video, especially due to the fact that we are seeing so much interesting stuff happening with modern NASCAR racing. One of the major problems that the sport faced for years was the proliferation of 1.5 mile ovals that were all basically the same. And by the same we mean intolerably boring. Obvious changes have been made to the schedule with stuff like the Bristol dirt race, the return to places like Nashville, and the work being done to secure street races and other short track events as well. So how did it happen? This video looks at the history of the boom of NASCAR’s growth in the 1990s and 2000s and how that growth brought the sport to new markets on new tracks. As the money flowed into the sport and new places to race were needed, a dozen modern facilities was constructed. They all happened to be 1.5 miles and the term “cookie cutter track” was born. There’s all kinds of intertwined stuff here. For starters there’s stuff like NASCAR demanding that dr

Engine Hell Video: This Compilation Of Demo Derby Engines Getting Worked Is Wild

Image
When it comes to motorsports that most people take recreationally and a handful take very seriously, demolition derby may be at the top of the heap. Anyone can buy a crummy car, gut the interior and drive it into someone else at a county fair. NOT everyone takes the time to basically pull the whole car apart, make legal (sometimes) adjustments, tweaks, and modifications to create a rolling battering ram to mangle the compete with. There’s another wildly under credited part of serious demolition competition and that’s sitting right there in the engine bay. The engines in hardcore demo derby cars get put through a level of automotive hell that is basically unmatched. Stock car engines, road racing engines, drag racing engines, all of that stuff get run and cycled and rebuilt and serviced. Demolition derby engines get run at WOT with little to no load on them, usually in dirt of muddy conditions, and they do so at extreme temperatures with cooling systems that are being savagely attacked

Watch This 427 FE High Riser Crank Out 670hp On The Dyno – This Thing Sounds Grand!

Image
We’ve told you about the 427 FE high riser engine a bunch here at BangShift over the years. One of the meanest versions of the venerable engine, it powered Ford to make race wins on circle tracks and the high riser is still a force to be reckoned with on the drag strip. In this video from Survival Motorsports we see a Barry Rabotnik built high riser crank out 670hp on the dyno. The stats of the engine were not published with the video so we do not know stuff like displacement, compression ratio, or camshaft specs, but we do know from the video’s title that the sucker makes nearly 700hp. This engine in a stick shifted, light drag car would be pretty brutal and awesome. High riser heads are factory parts insomuch as they were made and sold by Ford but they were never installed on factory mass produced cars. These were race car heads, plain and simple and they carried a factory part number because they had to for racing in the series and classes that they were designed to be used in. Th

Crew Cab Biscayne Project: 4 Door To 2 Door CONVERSION In A WEEKEND! Fast, Cheap and Easy!

Image
DD Speed Shop has been making good progress on the crew cab Biscayne project, and because you all said you wanted it they have decided to do the 2-door conversion! The first side is happening right here right now in this video. Check it out! I’ll never forget when I found out that a Tri-5 Chevrolet was pretty straight forward to swap from a 4-door into a 2-door, and it blew me away. I had just never looked at one that way before. Later on I would fall in love with a car that a dude built and hauled to Famoso for the March Meet and California Hot Rod Reunion every year. It was a 4-door Tri-5 that had been converted to a 2-door on the driver’s side, but left the front and back doors on the passenger side. It was cool and made me smile. Watch and let us know what you think should be done to it. Video Description: Well it’s the second part of 2 door swapping a 1966 Chevrolet Biscayne. I know this seems like a huge undertaking but it’s actually a pretty simple process. The hardest part
