Iron Trap Model A Shop Truck: It’s Back Together And Better Than Ever!

Image
The Model A Shop Truck is going together nicely now that all the chassis has been painted! Yes there is some fabrication happening in this episode to get it buttoned up, but then it will be almost ready to drive! I can’t wait to see this thing done and hauling parts around town! The more I watch Iron Trap videos the more I want to build a 1920-1940 hot rod. They seem so simple and bare-bones if you want them to be and that means that you can put one together pretty quickly if you have the right parts and pieces laying around. Since the Iron Trap gang does, this cool shop truck project should be pretty simple and straightforward for them to get up and running. It’s especially nice since it is going to be a shop truck and not something that has to be super clean and finished when done. That doesn’t mean it won’t be cool though! Check out video one of this project. There is more to come and you’ll dig it. CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THE PREVIOUS VIDEOS ON THE TRUCK PROJECT Video Descript

2022 Holley Hot Rod Reunion – A Lifelong Love Affair With This 1970 Ford Torino GT

Image
I’m a guy that has his car tattooed on his body, in fact I have three of my cars tattooed on my body. But I realize this isn’t the norm and that means you have to have a special kind of relationship with, and a special kind of commitment to, your car if you actually do have a tattoo of it. Such is the case with Don McLain, who has this awesome 1970 Torino, a car that he’s owned since 1971 and that has been through a few different iterations over the years. This newest one is pretty badass and the gang at Holley caught up with him at the 2022 National Hot Rod Reunion to see what this ride was all about. Video Description: It takes a special kind of commitment to a car to have it tattooed onto your arm! “Dyno” Don McLain has owned this 1970 Torino GT since 1971 and he’s not letting it go anytime soon. In it’s most recent build, the Ford was treated to a 545ci big-block, Sniper EFI, and a toned-down paint job that looks a mile deep. The post 2022 Holley Hot Rod Reunion – A Lifelong L

347 FORD STROKER-WHAT MAKES MORE POWER? BOLT ONS OR BOOST? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU UPGRADE WITH BOTH?

Image
Bolt-ons or boost? It’s the age-old question when building horsepower. Or should you just jump right into doing both? Luckily for us Richard Holdener is the king of dyno testing and can show you in the video below. So if you want to see what the real potential is of a heads, cam, and intake swap vs some boost, in this case on a 347 stroker small-block Ford, then here is your chance. Check it out below. Video Description: SHOULD I JUST ADD BOOST TO MY STOCK MOTOR? WHAT HAPPENS IF I ADD BOOST TO MY STOCK 5.0L OR STROKER? HOW MUCH POWER ARE PORTED 5.0L HEADS WORTH? HOW MUCH POWER IS A VORTECH SUPERCHARGER WORTH? SHOULD I UPGRADE THE HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE ON A 347 SBF? WHAT HAPPENS IF I COMBINE PORTED HEADS, AN XFI CAM AND RPM II INTAKE WITH BOOST? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I DYNO TESTED A 347 STROKER FORD. THE STROKER WAS FIRST RUN WITH STOCK E7TE HEADS, A STOCK 5.0L CAM AND GT-40 INTAKE, THEN WITH A VORTECH S-TRIM SUPERCHARGER. I THEN UPGRADED THE STOCK HEADS, CAM AND GT-40 WITH RHS P

Route 66 In A Forgotten Big Block Square Body – Day 2 With Lots Of Breakdowns

Image
The latest update on the C20 road trip has this poor truck being pushed to its limits because sitting for decades has taken its toll. That means this is one of those painful breakdown parts of the road trip, but who better to handle it than Derek? Check it out, and if you missed any of the previous videos then use the link below. We told you that this one would be exciting, and taking an old forgotten C20 on a road trip across Route 66 sure does qualify. This is a killer route that has some super fun parts to it, and from personal experience, we can attest that it is always better when explored behind the wheel of something cool and old. Derek is a squarebody Chevrolet truck fan and he’s brought a lot of them back to life, but this one right here is special. It’s a Silverado C20 and it’s an original big block truck. He found it, is going to rescue it, and has some big plans for driving it quite a long way. I won’t go into the details, because this video here will explain a lot, but r

Single Seat Race Car Build Part 4: The Grill, Which Is Actually A Three Part Series. So Here’s 4A…

Image
One of the most distinctive features of this build is the cool track nose grill and that’s not only because it’s front and center but also because it is one of the most custom pieces on this whole build. It was a ton of work to make happen, but the end result is worth it. This is the first video, of three, that document the whole process of this thing happening including the collaboration with Karl Fisher of Make It Kustom. Bennett’s Customs is an Australian is a traditional builder that does some pretty cool car and motorcycle projects, and they have embarked on a new project that must be done by September in order to go racing at the Perkolilli Red Dust Revival. This is a single seat race car build, like one that you would have seen in the 1940s and they are building it from a mix of scratch made parts, stuff that has been sitting around collecting dust, and some more traditional parts they will no doubt be wheeling and dealing for. If you are into traditional rides, like those we f

Columbus Goodguys Show Photos: Customs, Classics, Muscle, And More!

Here’s Mike’s sixth gallery of photos from the show, and if you missed the previous photos you can click the link below to check them all out. This show had some killer cars and trucks and there are several in this gallery we absolutely love. (Photos by Mike Brooks) If you are a regular here on BANGshift, then you know that regular contributor Mike Brooks had his awesome squarebody Chevy truck stolen from the hotel parking lot while he was attending the Columbus Goodguys show. It was heartbreaking, but we want to thank all of you that shared our posts about it. They are looking for the truck and hope to get it back, but at this point, no leads are good enough to get our hopes up. Thankfully Mike got two days of the show in with his beloved truck, while shooting all these great photos for us, and still felt like sharing them. Sunday morning, ready to leave after a fun weekend, is when Mike found his truck gone and put the word out immediately. He’s vowed to build another, and hopes it

Camaro Nationals Photos: Here Is Our Final Gallery From This Awesome Show, Plus A Link To All Our Previous Galleries!

Gallery number seven, our final from the Camaro Nationals, is right here and man were there some awesome cars at this event. The event itself is amazing because it is in what was a mall at one point. I love it. I seriously want to go to this one. Thankfully our resident Mustang guy, Joe Grippo, went for us. LOL Check out the gallery below and if you missed any of the previous photos then us the link below. (Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) When I heard the 2022 Camaro Nationals were going to happen 12 minutes from my house, I immediately blocked out time on my calendar. You read that correctly. This dyed in the blue wool Ford guy was looking forward to being waist deep in Camaros. The truth is, I like just about anything with wheels, and more muscular the better. I had to check it out. The ‘22 Camaro Nationals were held at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. The Classic Auto Mall is an old indoor shopping mall converted into a collectable and special interest car consig

LS Swapping A 1954 Bel Air Is A Bit Trickier Than You Might Think Sometimes But Halfass Kustoms Prevails

Image
It seems like everything on the planet has had an LS swap done to it nowadays, so we tend to assume that every LS swap will be pretty simple. But sometimes, this is just not the case. When Brent and Kyle looked at putting a 5.3 LS into Kyle’s wife’s 1954 Bel Air I’m sure they thought it would be pretty easy, but that was before getting a look at the giant power steering box that is bolted to the side of the chassis on this thing. The box is huge, and right in the way of the exhaust manifold. In typical Brent fashion, he finds a workaround and gets things rolling. You’ll see all the work required in the video below. Video Description: In this video, I help Kyle pull the 6 cylinder out of his wife’s ’54 Chevy and help install a 5.3 LS mated to a 700r transmission. We work our way though trying to keep the factory power steering and in the end, win. The Hot Rod Hoarder Goes On A Treasure Hunt At A Car Guy’s Estate Sale

Image
Some of the best barn finds on the planet come from estate sales, and while it is sad that someone is having their possessions sold because they have passed, it is super cool to see those things live on with someone new. But it isn’t just about cars, as there are often parts, memorabilia, vintage pieces and more. In this video from Tommy Lee, the Hot Rod Hoarder, he goes to an estate sale and checks out all the cool stuff they have for sale. And man is there some cool stuff here. Check it out. Video Description: I love a good treasure hunt, especially when there is a collection of old cars, motorcycles and parts. We recently had the opportunity to check out a car guy’s estate sale. I loved the complete package of Edsel: 1958, 1959 and 1960. Also included is a 1949 Buick, a 1960 Cadillac, a 1963 Ford Ranchero, a 1978 AMC Pacer, a 1960’s BSA Thunderbolt motorcycle, 1969 Norton Commando, a 1972 Triumph Tiger and lots of great parts. Unfortunately, I left the estate sale empty handed as

NHRA ADDS A/FUEL ENGINE PROGRAM TO TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR CLASS FOR 2023 LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES

This might be the worst kept secret in drag racing as everyone in NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Alcohol classes has been talking about this one. And boy are the players involved split on whether it is good or bad. INDIANAPOLIS (July 27, 2022) – In a move designed to strengthen the class, improve participation, and drive innovation, NHRA officials have announced the addition of an A/Fuel engine program for the Top Alcohol Funny Car class beginning in the 2023 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The Top Alcohol Funny Car class features some of the top drivers in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, with cars capable of reaching speeds of more than 270 mph and covering the quarter-mile in less than 5.4-seconds. With the addition of the A/Fuel (injected nitromethane) engine program into the class, NHRA will look to increase participation in the class, and give drivers and race teams another viable, efficient option to run in the thrilling category. NHRA officials have released a full

The Iron Trap Sweetheart Roadster Dash Update Part 3: Finishing Up The Glove Boxes And Gauges!

Image
Here is Part 3 of the Sweetheart Roadster’s Dash build, which includes finishing up the double glovebox design and getting all the gauges installed. It’s a pretty cool idea and really does play well with the layout of this custom roadster. Now that everything is in place, this thing really is starting to look like a hot rod. The Sweetheart Roadster is just one of the cool projects that are being built by the Iron Trap Garage crew, and there has been a lot of metal work going on to get it looking like a complete car again. Now it’s time for some customization to happen in the dash, not only with the layout of the gauges but also molding the dash into the doors. There is a lot to do, including more additions besides gauges, but this first video is all about the layout and design and then cutting some serious holes. Check it out. TORRENCE, TASCA III AND ENDERS RACE TO PROVISIONAL TOP SPOTS AT FLAV-R-PAC NHRA NORTHWEST NATIONALS

Image
KENT, Wash. (July 29, 2022) – Four-time defending Top Fuel world champ Steve Torrence raced to the provisional No. 1 spot in the NHRA’s first race in Seattle since 2019, grabbing the top position on Friday at the 33rd annual Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceway. Bob Tasca III (Funny Car) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) are also the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the 13th of 22 races during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season and the final stop during the three-race NHRA Western Swing. Torrence went 3.819-seconds at 321.50 mph in his 11,000-horsepower Capco Contractors dragster as he aims to qualify No. 1 for the third time this season. It’s been three years since the NHRA last visited Pacific Raceways and Torrence is after his first victory of the 2022 season as the team continues to round into championship form at what could be the perfect time. “We were very pleased to make a nice, clean run and our guys were happy with that,” said Torrence, who w

Small Town Car Show Tour Photos: The Grand Coachman Car Show From St. Paul Nebraska Thanks To Scott Liggett

Last summer, Scott Liggett brought us pictures from some of the car shows he hit up in the small towns near his home in Nebraska. And while the towns might have been small, the shows themselves were anything but. These folks in Nebraska are serious about their hot rods and muscle cars, and they were bringing them out in droves. Below is the latest from Scott’s adventures, and we’re going to be sharing his galleries for the next several days. (Words and Photos by Scott Liggett) Last summer I visited a bunch of small town car shows and showed the world a few things about the car scene in the small towns of Nebraska.  Just because a town is small, doesn’t mean the car scene can’t be big. And, there are a ton of high-quality classics and customs that are residing in these small towns. This time, we went to St. Paul, NE to check out Royal Coachmen’s Car Club’s car show as part of the Grover Cleveland Alexander Days of St. Paul. Who is Grover Cleveland Alexander, and why is St. Paul cele

Safety First: How To Take Measurements For A Custom Simpson Fire Suit

Image
Anyone that pays much attention around me knows that racing safety is a topic near and dear to my heart. Lyle Barnett and I talk about it all the time on our Podcast and I often advise folks on their setups, bad habits, etc. Fire suits are one of the topics that a lot of people don’t want to talk about, but should be. They are great, they are required by sanctioning bodies, and when used properly will undoubtedly save your life should the need arise. One thing that pisses me off is seeing someone driving a car that clearly requires a fire suit while wearing track pants and a t-shirt. I tell people all the time that we spend our childhood wanting to dress up like race car drivers and then we become race car drivers and don’t want to wear the fire suit. It’s just plain stupid. So you should avoid being stupid and get yourself a fire suit. There are plenty of them available at various price points, and you should have one. The ultimate is to have a fire suit made just for you, using you

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ADD DISPLACEMENT USING STOCK HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE? 4.8L VS 5.3L, 5.0L VS 347

Image
There is no replacement for displacement! We’ve been told that forever. And bigger is always better, I’m sure I’ve heard that before when talking about camshafts and engines, and compression ratios. In this video, Richard Holdener is taking a 4.8 and a 5.3 and a 5.0 and a 347 to see what the difference in torque really is when it comes to each of these combos. Check it out below. Video Description: HOW DO I MAKE MORE TORQUE? WILL A STROKER MOTOR MAKE MORE POWER? CAN I USE MY STOCK HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE WITH A STROKER MOTOR? DOES A 5.3L MAKE MORE TORQUE THAN A 4.8L? ARE THE STOCK HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE RESTRICTIVE ON A STROKER MOTOR? DO STOCK HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE LIMIT POWER PRODUCTION? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I COMPARED A 4.8L LS TO A LARGER 5.3L LS-BOTH EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME STOCK HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE? WHO MAKES MORE TORQUE? LS/Hemi Hybrid In A Rad, Tire Smoking, 1966 El Camino! Justin Arias Does The Family Name Proud!

Image
If you want to see a big nasty burnout from a car that sounds about as pissed off as possible, then this is the video for you! The Arias name is one that is steeped in history in the horsepower world, so it is no wonder that Justin is as hooked on horsepower as he is. Our friend Ronnie Mankins sent the link to this one because he knew we’d love seeing this cool El Camino out in the burnout pit trying to shred some tires. You will too. When Justin visited the burnout pit at Hoonigans they were pretty excited to see what he could do as well. This sucker jumps up on the tire and makes some smoke! Video Description: Is is an LS or a small block? Yes! Justin hand-tooled a lot of his own parts for his vintage ’66 Chevelle El Camino tribute truck, but the engine is a special hybrid of an LS and a small block Hemi. The result? 678 horsepower to those bias-ply slickies! JUSTIN ARIAS / 1966 CHEVELLE EL CAMINO https://www.instagram.com/_justinarias_ The post LS/Hemi Hybrid In A Rad, Tire S

Turn Your Alternator UP With A Potentiometer For Only $2 ! Will It Catch Fire ?! Proceed At Your Own Risk!

Image
I’m all about using great parts that do the job and do it well. But sometimes those parts are either unavailable or out of the budget. And sometimes it is just fun to see if you can make something work that most people wouldn’t try. With that said, this project here is electrical and that can be a potential problem if you are not confident in your abilities and if your other electrical system components are not up to the task of higher voltage. We are  not endorsing or encouraging you to do something you aren’t comfortable or qualified to do, so watch and try the rest at your own risk. With that out of the way, check out this cool thing that you can do with your own alternator! Video Description: Learn how I made a stock LS alternator charge my 14v battery at 16v ! You could use this to tweak a 12v battery charging to 14+ but use caution as you can over charge a battery also! Proceed at your own risk. Not responsible for any issues arising from this experiment. Forgotten Big Block Truck- Will It RUN AND DRIVE After 16 Years?

Derek is a squarebody Chevrolet truck fan and he’s brought a lot of them back to life, but this one right here is special. It’s a Silverado C20 and it’s an original big block truck. He found it, is going to rescue it, and has some big plans for driving it quite a long way. I won’t go into the details, because this video here will explain a lot, but rest assured that if you are a fan of the Vice Grip Garage channel you are going to want to watch this one. If you have never watched any of his videos before, then welcome to the club. This one is good. Video Description: This 1978 Chevrolet Silverado c20 is definitely restoration worthy! Let’s see if it’ll wake out of an almost two-decade slumber and hit the road once again. I have huge plans for this truck, so stick around to the end to find out! 4.3L V6 VS THE WORLD! VORTEC 4.3L V6 vs 4.3L L99 V8 vs 4200 ATLAS vs 4.3L LV3. THE 4.3L HP EVOLUTION

Image
While the 4.3L might not be the most famous GM engine size, it surely does have a lot of history for the brand. We’re talking about the 4.3 V6 we’re used to seeing, a 4.3L inline 6, and even the 4.3L V8 that came in fullsize B-Body GM cars. But which one is best? I mean I love the turbocharged 4.3 that came in the Syclone and Typhoon. But the 4200 inline “Trailblazer” engine is also one bad mother when done right. Watch the video and see what the tests done by Richard Holdener show. Video Description: V6 VS V8 VS INLINE 6-WHICH ENGINE CONFIGURATION IS BEST? WHICH 4.3L V6 IS BEST? WHICH 6 CYLINDER MAKES THE MOST POWER? HOW MUCH MORE POWER DOES AN LV3 MAKE THAN THE VORTEC V6? DID THEY MAKE A 4.3L V8? V8 VS V6! INLINE VS V-WHICH WORKS BEST? Let The Beat Drop: The 2023 Honda Civic Type R Has Nearly 350hp and Fun Potential For Days

Image
(By Tom Lohnes) –  The Honda Civic Type R is a storied vehicle. Starting in 1997, Japan has received the Civic Type R as a standard Civic hatch with literally everything beefed up and revised slightly for better track performance. Us Yanks only started receiving the hot Civic in 2017, with the exception of a few Type Rs sneakily rebadged as Acura Integras and RSXs in the states back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Well, the new one is here, and it looks very promising. The second-ever US-spec Honda to wear red badges, the 2023 Civic Type R is a formerly sedate hatchback turned track monster. With a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 under the hood, Honda hasn’t said how much power the new ‘R will make, but they did confirm that it is the most powerful model they have imported to the US. Rumors say 346 horses, but we’ll see. Power goes exclusively through a 6-speed manual transmission, and  once again the Type-R remains the absolute benchmark for Front-wheel-drive performance vehicles. Outs

Listen Up: Joey Gladstone and Robert Hight Join Lohnes on the NHRA Insider Podcast!

Image
Sonoma winner Joey Gladstone and NHRA funny car points leader Robert Hight join host Brian Lohnes for this episode of the NHRA Insider podcast. After an incredible race in Sonoma, Lohnes recaps the event, its highlights, and provides some insight into not only Sonoma but this week’s Seattle race before settling down with the show’s guests. Joey Gladstone captured his first national event win in his third straight final round by nailing a holeshot against Eddie Krawiec in the Sonoma final. Lohnes talks to him about that event, the weeks leading up to it, and how his career has formed him up to rise to this occasion. This is a very personal conversation with the brightest rising star in this class of drag racing. Robert Hight is having one of his greatest seasons ever and it shows no signs of letting up. While he was eliminated in the semi-finals in Sonoma he had been on a streak of finals and wins that have made him the points leader by a wide margin. Hight talks about the lessons l

Ride With Jochen Mass As He Drives A Legendary Mercedes 300 SL Harder Than You Have Ever Seen

Image
Jochen Mass is known far and wide by people who love the history of international racing. Mass participated in a number of F1 races over the years but his real calling was answered when he started racing sports cars. Mass collected wins at the world’s biggest races driving everything from Porsche models to turbocharged Fords. He’s also the guy who has been entrusted by Mercedes to drive their historic collection at events like Goodwood. That’s pretty gnarly, right? In this video he pounds on a legendary Mercedes 300 SL in ways we have never seen. Here’s the thing. The 300SL is one of those cars that has such an aura, such a history, and such a legendary competition record that all anyone wants to do is see them race. Unfortunately all the things that made them bad ass racers made them worth huge sums of money. Like millions of dollars. That means the cars became too expensive to do the one thing they were designed to excel at from the factory…race. But the beauty here is that is exac

A Glimpse Into The Future: Toyota Announces The Return Of The Crown Name To American Shores – Multiple New Models Coming

Image
(By Tom Lohnes) –  The Toyota Crown is a name most Americans do not remember, because it was Toyota’s flagship model back in the mid-to-late 70’s when Toyota really wasn’t what they are today. It was a cool enough car, with scaled-down land yacht  styling and great fuel economy, but as you can tell it never really caught on. Since then, we have still gotten the Crown intermittently, with models being imported and sold under the name Cressida, or more recently, our dearly departed third-gen Lexus GS. Either way, it is back now, and it once again returns to America. As you can see, this flagship sedan is a tad bit different than the one that last left our shores in 1977. Meant to replace the Avalon, the 2023 crown is an electrified, lifted, family sedan that has three more versions coming later on. Looking like a Corolla that just survived the apocalypse, the new Crown is a new take on a family vehicle, which is refreshing to see in the sea of CUVs we have today. In America, the Crown

Beyond The Concrete: The Upcoming Hurracan Sterrato Is A Dirt Ready Lambo We Really Want To Drive

Image
(By Tom Lohnes) –  Imagine this: You are a millionaire in need of a V10-powered supercar fitted from factory with long-travel shocks and off-road tires. Whatever shall you do? Well, Lamborghini seems to have the answer to that. Take a look at this teaser video they released of their upcoming Huracan Sterrato. Lamborghini never doesn’t go crazy with their supercars. Sure, the Urus SUV is a tad mundane for the enthusiast, but that’s meant to be a tactical cash grab to fund other cars like the Sterrato. This Huracan is even more special than that though, because it very well could be the last V10-powered Lamborghini. The Italian marque did confirm a second-generation Huracan, but they did not specify what kind of engine it would have. We know that it will be a hybrid, but Lamborghini simply said that it will have more than six and less than twelve cylinders. That leaves the options of a V8 or a V10. Let’s pray for the latter. Before the future comes though, let’s marvel at this V10, bec

Safety Third: This Video Showing The Starting Process of A Rumley Oil Pull Tractor Is Insane

Image
There are not that many vehicles left in the world where starting them is a matter of life and death. Fuel dragsters and that’s about it on that list. Back in the day though there were ample opportunities to die just trying to live your life as this video 100% shows. You are going to watch a guy start a Rumley Oil Pull tractor and when we say that you won’t believe that he is doing the factory recommended procedure, you won’t believe that he is doing the factory recommended procedure. The Rumley Oil Pull tractors were a bit of a shock to the market when they came out because they used kerosene for fuel in a world populated by steam powered tractors. These things have engines with a  10-inch bores and 12-inch stroke. You can watch videos on YouTube where you can actually count the revs as the cylinder fires and the piston returns to the top of the bore. In this case we are going to watch how a farmer of the era would have started one of these tractors. There was not electric starters a

Gearhead History Video: This Look At The Allison Engine Company Jet Program In 1950 Is Fantastic

Image
There are lots of things that we take for granted in life that have not been around all that long. Turbine engines are one of them. Jet planes changed the world in many ways and their development was not all because people wanted to get from one place to another quicker. No, in fact their development was hastened because people wanted to kill each other. It was the German air force in WWII that, in the waning days of their efficacy released a jet powered fighter plane. The machines were a bit of a shock for the high command of the Allies and thankfully Germany was in such bad shape they could not build them with any amount of speed or volume but their existence kicked English and American efforts into overdrive. In this Jam Handy made 1950 masterpiece we get a look at the Allison Engine company jet program. This is really neat because we get to see the engines getting built, parts getting machined, and even parts being destructively tested. The stuff in this video is quaint in many wa

Video: Put A 5 or 6 Speed Stick In Your GMT400 1988-1998 GM Truck NOW With An American Powertrain Kit

Image
We know that the 1988-1998 GM truck market is set to explode pretty quick. In fact, we’re all watching it happen real time on the internet. The trucks that are kind cheap now are going to be climbing in value in a hurry so you need to get in on this. Solidly built, rugged, and easy to modify, the rigs have a lot going for them. One thing that’s crummy is that very, very few of them came with a clutch pedal and appropriate manual transmission goodness. American Powertrain has that fixed with their new kit for GMT400 1988-1998 GM trucks. Instead of some bazillion mile four speed automatic, you can have a five or six speed stick in your rig that will make it more fun to drive, more fuel efficient, and far faster as well, even if you are sticking with a stock engine. As is the case in all of their well-engineered kits, the American Powertrain system is not just a transmission and a wish of good luck. Nope, this is the transmission, the hardware you need to mount it, a bell housing, clutch

Awesome Engine Video: The Restoration Of This Three-Valve Mickey Thompson Small Block Chevy Is Amazing

Image
We’re not sure how we missed the memo that Mickey Thompson built a one-off, three-valve small block Chevy to compete at the Indy 500 with in the late 1960s but he did and the engine is amazing. Not only is the engine great, it has been restored to running order in the very car that it was raced in. This video talks about the engine, contains an interview with the builder who did the restoration, and goes over some of the most interesting and downright weird elements that the engine included. Mickey Thompson was captured by the Indy 500 as so many racing magnates were at this era in history. They loved the wide open ability to innovate, the fact that the sky was the technological limit, and that they could chase any bizarro dreams that they came up with. Usually this creativity ended in tears and no one knew that better than Thompson. His efforts were often ground breaking but they came with risk, a risk that racers take as part of thir jobs.
