The 60th Chicago World Of Wheels Show: Our Coverage Continues From The Biggest And Oldest World Of Wheels Show

We’ve got more photos from Jim Hrody. We really appreciate his coverage, as he loves getting out to shows and shooting photos to share with all our BANGshifters. We’ve got more coming, so check them all out and if you missed any so far don’t worry because their is a link below to all of them! (Words and Photos by Jim Hrody) World of Wheels has been a Chicago-area tradition for quite some time, and 2023 marked its 60th annual showing. Having taken place in the city proper when first started, the show was moved to Rosemont, Illinois in 2010. This is one of the larger W.O.W. shows on the tour. On the main floor, 600ish cars, trucks, and motorcycles are spread around between seven rooms. BAMA OUTLAWS – Racing Action From The Radial Outlaws At Alabama International Dragway

(Photos by Damon Steinke) The Radial Outlaws Racing Series visited Alabama International Dragway this past weekend and radial racers from all over the country came to prove who had the horsepower and the tuneup to put themselves in the winner’s circle. With five classes of competition, including Radial vs The World, Pro 275, Limited Drag Radial, Ultra Street, and X275, all of which paid more than $40,000 to the winners, you know the heavy hitters were on site. And with $130,000 for the Series Champions to take home at the end of the year, every point counts. This was the third of six races this season in the Radial Outlaws Racing Series and the competition is only getting fiercer. This weekend our dude Damon Steinke was on hand shooting photos like a mad man, and he’s shared a full gallery below for you to check out. There is also a link to even more photos if you want to check them out on E3xtreme.com.  This weekend’s winners: Jason Lee – Radial VS The World Scott Tidwell and Jas

New Product: Monocord Pro Steering Wheel Cord Quick Release: One Cord, 4 buttons, And Quick Release By Motion Raceworks

Image
Quick-release steering wheels are great in race cars and can make getting in and out of the car a lot easier, and can also aid in doing maintenance between rounds or in the shop. Regardless of why you have one, if you also have a button or four on the steering wheel then you know that it is often a pain to get the steering wheel disconnected from the wiring harness. With this new kit from Motion Raceworks that is NOT an issue. When paired with their proprietary steering wheel quick release, you have a perfect steering and control system. Check out the video below and you’ll see what we are talking about. With this system, you have one connection at the steering wheel, with a cable that is capable of supporting up to 4 buttons, which means that you don’t have multiple cords hanging along your steering column when trying to turn. ATTENTION DRAG AND DRIVE COMPETITORS!!! This system also allows you to disconnect the cord from your steering wheel while driving on the street! Just disconn

Happy Cadillac 331 and Chrysler 331 Hemi Day! Let’s Check Out These Cool, Old Mills

Image
Today is a great date because while most of the world sees it as March 31st, us gearheads know it as Cadillac 331 and Chrysler 331 hemi day. These two engines were both developed just past WWII and they were integral in the development of the hot rodding world that we live in today. These engines hastened the end of the dominance of the flathead in the hot rodding culture. Overhead valves and hemispherical combustion chambers are things that we take for granted today but back in the late 1940s and the early 1950s this was revolutionary stuff and it really changed the automotive landscape. Here’s a look at these two engines that really helped to form the hot rodding world with videos and all!   In 1949 Cadillac rolled out their 331ci V8 engine and really wowed the world with its performance and hot rodders being what they were immediately saw the potential in this design over the flatheads that dominated their world to that point. Now, it should be noted that it was not exactly comm

Flying Sparks Starts Working On The Rough C6 Corvette’s T56: Part 3 – Ooops, There Broken Parts In Here!

Image
They got it apart, and there are broken parts inside for sure! When Emily and Aaron bought their “new” C6 Corvette a few months ago, it was rough and ready, to say the least. This thing is NOT pretty at all, but it has some of the key features they really wanted. Now it’s time to start working on this ugly duckling and that means tearing apart several things. One of those is the rear transaxle which is not the easiest removal apparently and it fights them the entire way out of the car. Was there an easier way to do this? Apparently, Emily is wondering just that! Once they got it out, they knew there were some real problems. See how they fix them. Watch. Another 3/30 Celebration: The Dodge 330, Ma Mopar’s Plain-Jane Sucker Punch!

Image
Elsewhere today, you will find that Brian has put up his engine tribute for 3/30, which features units from Oldsmobile, DeSoto and the Ford 5.4L unit of late. Good selections, for sure, but 3/30 makes me want to highlight something different: the Dodge 330. Not exactly a model name that’s well known, especially when you start asking younger folk, but if they’ve been around a track long enough they’ve seen what a 330 can do. What’s impressive is that this is genesis for the B-body platform that Chrysler ran through the end of 1979. So this 330, a 1967 Charger, 1970 Superbird, 1971 Road Runner, 1975 Fury Sport and 1978 Magnum XE are all tied to this exact setup, with only slight wheelbase differences to mark any real difference. The 330 was a trim level of the intermediate cars and didn’t mean much more than whether or not you got a cigarette lighter and some extra fluff inside of the car, but that’s not what BangShift remembers about these cars. No, what you need to know is Max Wedge:

Uncle WTF: Pole Barn Garage Polishes A Mercury-Shaped Turd

Image
Full disclosure: This 1977 Mercury Marquis is doomed to be a parts donor. The 460 will wind up in a Torino along with a few other choice parts and the rest…who knows. I’m not sure how many people are actively restoring 1977 Mercury….well, any Mercury, to be honest, let alone 19.5 feet of pure FoMoCo Yacht Club that’s seen the rougher end of the last twenty-something years. But for Dalton of Pole Barn Garage, he sees the chance to have a little fun with the great big brick before it’s turned into two years’ worth of soup cans. You see, for some reason he wound up with two full-sized Fords…a turd-brown LTD coupe that’s about a 1970-71 vintage, and this beauty that makes us immediately think of Uncle Buck’s smoking, backfiring snow sled. Oh, if only this thing was as complete. You see, this Mercury is too far gone to save…and that’s saying something about the dude who made a street machine out of a GTO that was treated like a firing range backstop and who is currently putting together a

Featured Product: The Suspension Geek Tow And Jack Plate Is A Gift From Heaven For Camaro And Nova Owners

Image
SuspensionGeek.com’s Tow and Jack Plate product is so straightforward, you’re going to kick yourself for not thinking of it sooner. And while we’ve seen some creative solutions to the problems this creative product addresses, we’ve never seen any single product that fixes them all. After decades of working with the shortcomings of a first-generation Camaro subframe, Rodney at Suspension Geek has come up with the Tow and Jack Plate which strengthens the factory subframes weak jack point AND gives you two great places to tie down your car on the trailer. So why do you need this? Well, one of the worst parts about a First F-Body or X-Body subframe is the front crossmember. The jacking point, which seems like it’s made of pot metal, is the place you’re supposed to rest the entire front end of your favorite child on. In addition, if you tow your car, you’re forced to put tie-downs on control arms, sway bars, wherever you come up with…even special padded straps to put around your wheels. W

Drag Racing Time Machine Video: This 1965 8MM Footage Shot At The NHRA Winternationals Is Amazing!

Image
We have showed you film from the 1965 NHRA Winternationals before and told you the story of the race. As a quick reminder, this one was known as the “One Day Wonder” as days and days of rain had denied the start of the event until Sunday and the entire race was run in a single day. The cars were pounding down the track and all the biggest names were there. The video you are going to see comes from a YouTube channel called Sour Schwinn. The guy who posted it was a baby at the time his pop brought the 8mm camera to Pomona and recorded his day from the stands. The films were found in a desk and he digitized them. This is some of the cleanest, most clear, and well shot 1960s amateur drag racing video we have ever seen. You can clearly identify cars like the Sachs and Sons Mercury, Connie Kalitta in the Bounty Hunter dragster, KS Pittman, and the list goes on and on and on. What’s more is the fact that the top fuel final is shot from the top end and we can see Prudhomme blowing up the Haw

Tri-State Auto Exhibition Photos – All These Hot Rods Are Tired Of Winter And Ready To Be Back!

Here is our last gallery of cool stuff from Wickam’s visit to the Tri State Auto Exhibition. Check them out and use the link below if you missed any! (Words and Photos by Charles Wickam) A staple in the Denver car community is the Tri-State Auto Exhibition, and in 2023 the Sabers Car Club celebrated its 44th year hosting the event, and it was once again held in the National Western Complex. This year a strong showing of Colorado’s finest drag-n-drive came to the show along with 250 other vehicles in all shapes and sizes from exotic supercars to sky-high lifted 4x4s to pro street muscle cars, this show has all the bases covered with this year’s entries. Over the next few days, we will have a number of galleries as our man Wickman covered the event for us, getting just about the entire event photographed between chatting it up with new and old friends. Not ANOTHER Project!!! We Think This 1956 Chevrolet 210 2 Door Sedan Is Just What Mortske Needs!

Image
Who out there has a project car problem like I do? I want to own them all, even if I am not sure I can finish them all. It’s a sickness and one that all of us hot rodders have. If we didn’t, then we wouldn’t share cars that are for sale online all the time when we have no business buying another project ourselves. Mortske is in the same boat, and in this video, he’s got another project going and we totally approve. I mean who doesn’t like a ’56 Chevy? It’s the best Tri-Five made! This thing is great. I’d drive it daily after a little cleanup, which is exactly what is going down. Check it out and see if you think Mortske has done it right. Video Description: I picked this 1956 Chevrolet sedan project from another buddy who’d had his fun and wasn’t going to give it the attention that it needed. So follow along as we try to make it just a little bit better. And then it’ll sit and rot away in our back lot… This one isn’t for sale just yet folks. As always, thanks for watching! The po

Turbo The World: This Yamaha TZR125 Is Straight Up Hateful With A Turbocharger!

Image
Turbocharged two stroke engines, especially of the gasoline burning variety are not things that we see with regularity. Of course forced induction works on a two stroke, just ask Detroit Diesel, but it is just not a very common thing to see people messing with. Thankfully the guys who made the video below were messing with it and the results were beyond bad ass. This is a little Yamaha TR125 and while we do know that it is huffed, we do not know where the turbo came from, how hilariously small it is, and where you can find one. We can tell you that according to the video there were virtually NO internal modifications to the engine. There were stronger clutch springs added to the engine which we’re guessing was to keep the thing from just running away on the stock clutch. The engine was factory rated right around 26-27hp and with 1 bar of pressure being shoved into its face, enriched fuel system, and the hammer down this thing made 53hp effectively doubling the factory output and doin

The Frozen Shift: In Car Video Of A Guy Rowing A Four Speed In Iceland!

Image
This is one of the most “pure” drag racing videos we have ever posted and it comes from Iceland, circa the 1970s. What do we mean by pure? Well we have a muscle car with the hood hacked open and the carbs exposed running full steam down what seems to be a drag strip made out of a desolate highway. Did we mean street race? Nope, we meant drag strip. If you look close you can see a box on the left side of where the car stages that looks like it would contain timing lights. Plus, there is a definite finish line because the guy lifts quickly after crossing it. He then proceeds to make the turn to head back up the course to the starting line. This is as stripped down and honest as it gets with drag racing. No stands, no t-shirt cannons, nothing but the desolate Icelandic countryside and a flat, wide stretch of road. Add in the four speed equipped muscle car and we’ve got the gearhead version of perfection. It gives us chills. We were amazed that the clip had sound. Not because it was from

Money No Object: Dad’s Old ’69 Caprice Certainly Had Guts, Didn’t It?

Image
Nostalgia might be the strongest force when it comes to all of us who are afflicted with this gearhead sickness. Somewhere along the way, usually early on, there was something about a car that made an impression on you that has since been unshakable. I know mine…my uncle Ben’s 1977 Camaro when I was in kindergarten…but for many, I’m willing to bet that it was whatever your dad or grandpa drove. Especially if you are of a certain age, Dad usually had the cooler car while Mom was driving the family shuttle around. Maybe not. But whatever the “cool” set of wheels was that triggered you, that memory sticks. It’s cemented in place. Which leads me to asking a question: Whose parents optioned this beauty back in 1969? There are about three ways this 1969 Caprice came to be: One: the original buyer was a die-hard Chevrolet type and wanted to have the baddest MF on the block with four doors…but also wanted to slip under the radar. A blue and white Caprice four door? Sure, that’s a respecta

ARP Adds More Accessory Studs With Rounded “Nut Starter” Available For A Variety Of Applications!

Image
ARP’s (Automotive Racing Products) unique accessory studs with a rounded “nut starter” nose are available for an ever-increasing variety of applications. These include specially designed studs for securing bellhousings, carburetors, distributors, headers, timing covers, valve covers and more. An important benefit of using studs is being able to accurately position gaskets and hold them in place during the assembly process. They are available in polished stainless steel or black oxide finished 8740 chrome moly and nominally rated at 180,000 psi tensile strength —fully 20% stronger than Grade 8 hardware. Kits include a choice of hex or 12-point nuts and washers. M8 and M10 metric studs are offered in a variety of lengths in a choice of 4, 8, 10 or 16-pack configurations. They are commonly used for Sport Compact intake and exhaust manifold installations and are also hex-broached for ease of installation. Being stainless steel, they are virtually impervious to the elements. All fasten

Simple Tech: How To Rebuild Drum Brake Wheel Cylinders At Home For Cheap!

Image
I know that disc brake swaps are super common on muscle cars, hot rods, etc, but there are still a ton of them out there running stock rear drum brakes and for good reason. They work. There is nothing wrong with drum brakes for a lot of cars that are just going to be used for cruising and are not going to be raced hard. And in fact, they are still the preferred method for lots of hauling applications. That means there are a lot of wheel cylinders out there and at some point they will all need to be rebuilt. Sure, you can buy them pretty cheap at the parts store too, but in reality you can rebuild them at home in less time than it will take for you to drive to the parts store. And probably for about the same money as the gas will cost you to get there. Really, it’s that easy. In this video, Jefferson is going to show you just how to do it and I hope you all try. Order up some rebuild kits, have them sent to you at home, and then get after it. Video Description: The wheel cylinder is

Halfass Kustoms 1935 Dodge Coupe Project: Making A New Roof Section For The 3 Window Coupe Project!

Image
In this episode we see Brent take the roof to a new place by getting a new roof section in place. There is also some cutting and hacking going on on old frame parts underneath. There is a lot to do, but he’s the dude for it. The original plan was to build a chopped 1935 Dodge 3 window coupe out of a sedan body that had been cut up. It was someone else’s abandoned project and boy did it look daunting, even for someone like Brent. So he decided that a new donor would be in order and that he needed to find something else he could make into his dream 3 window. You are going to want to check this out. Brent from Halfass Kustoms is one of my favorite dudes on YouTube. He’s not fancy, he’s a bit brutish sometimes, but man he gets projects done in record time and is so inspiring to anyone who needs a push to get out on the shop and do some work. He works on his stuff multiple nights a week and so he really makes headway each and every week. I’ve been following his 1935 Dodge Coupe project fo

DD Speed Shop FAIL! CHEAPEST Wiring Harness On AMAZON – DON’T Buy This Junk!

Image
I’m one of those weird people that doesn’t hate wiring cars, but it is a real job and takes a lot of time regardless of what your vehicle is. Unfortunately, a ton of people seem to think that cheaping out on a wiring harness is the best way to go, and I’m often confused on why. With big name brands making awesome products, that only cost a few dollars more, I don’t see how saving $20-$100 makes sense when your time and mental health are worth something. DD Speed Shop just found this out the hard way after successfully using cheap harnesses before, this time it bit him. Make no mistake, I understand trying to save money, but this isn’t one of those things to save it on. Watch and see why. Video Description: It’s everyone’s favorite automotive task…. WIRING! I’m a Camaro guy, even though I own several other fun hot rods too. But when I saw this video I about fell over. You have to watch it. This might actually be the best barn find ever. We’re talking about 39 cars, most of which are real 1969 Z28 Camaros, plus a handful of 1968 Camaros and big block 1970 Chevelles. Antron Brown Makes FIRST Pass In The Toyota GR Supra Jr Roadster

Image
Jr. Drag Racing is awesome, and we love watching kids get their start in drag racing in the cool half size dragsters. But for years there have been folks asking why there aren’t Jr. Funny Cars, which is a fair question. The truth is that NHRA hasn’t wanted to have funny cars because they didn’t want kids to have a hard time getting out of them in case of a crash or something. This here is the new NHRA approved Jr. “Roadster” which is a funny car without a roof so kids can get out of it when they want. We approve. With that said, I do wish NHRA would allow go-karts in Jr. Drag Racing so that kids who already kart could participate. They do that in other countries but not here. Maybe that will change now that they are making headway towards more styles of race car. Aeromotive Combines Fuel Filter And Adjustable Pressure Regulator Into One Unit

Image
At the recent SEMA/MPMC meetings in Los Angeles, we spotted a new product from Aeromotive Fuel Systems that you gotta see, one of those fuel system parts we’re going to use! Aeromotive has developed a new fuel filter and regulator combination unit to ease installation and reduce return line length. The Aeromotive Regulator Fuel Filter Combo is the first-ever to feature an adjustable regulator and is available for carbureted orEFI setups. Finding locations to fit separate fuel filters and regulators can be challenging in some applications adding to plumbing complexity. The new Aeromotive Regulator Fuel Filter Combo solves these challenges. It simplifies the installation process by combining a fuel filter with a regulator into one compact and easy-to-mount unit.   Its universal fitment and billet aluminum construction make it ideal for use in a wide range of street-performance vehicles with up to 1,000 horsepower. Aeromotive prides itself on addressing challenges, Aeromotive

Davis’ Mazda is fairly-close to stock, so in a series for heavily-modified street cars, he is at a decided disadvantage in nearly every regard, considering points are distributed to cars before they are split into classes. Last season, Davis’ best weekend was a 382-point outing at Portland International Raceway. Davis ran in the season-opener at Thunderhill Raceway, where he picked up a very solid 379 points. However, when he sa

Another One Done: Chevrolet Announces The End Of Camaro In 2024

Image
It’s not like we didn’t see it coming, but yesterday Chevrolet made it official: the Camaro will be sunset at the end of the 2024 model year. The reasons are well known: GM is leaning heavily into EVs and there just isn’t enough room for a two-door, four-seat coupe that packs a V8 punch. They don’t sell, not even on nostalgia. But that isn’t going to stop GM from taking one final swipe at Camaro heritage before they move on. For 2024, there will be a “Collector’s Package” for the RS and SS models and a limited number of ZL1-equipped cars in North America. According to GM, “The Collector’s Edition pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther.” “As we prepare to say goodbye to the current generation Camaro, it is difficult to overstate our gratitude to every Camaro customer, Camaro assembly line employee and race fan,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global

MoParty 2022: Dave Schultz’s 1960 Plymouth “Wildwood”

Image
I’m not sure how anyone could look at Dave Schultz’s 1960 Plymouth Wagon and not think it was rad, which is exactly what everyone at Moparty thought! Check out this cool feature video from the gang at Holley on it. My affinity for wagons was very apparent when I saw this one firsthand. I dig it, and you will too. Video Description: It’s big, it’s bad, and it’s loud. Dave Schultz’s “Screaming Woody” 1960 Plymouth brings 588 cubic inches of serious Wedge power to the strip, complete with a one-of-a-kind look that Plymouth never actually made. Originally a run-of-the-mill wagon, the second-angriest red Plymouth to exist was undergoing some shakedown runs at MoParty 2022 in the Nostalgia Super Stock category with a refreshed engine. Sounded healthy to us… The post MoParty 2022: Dave Schultz’s 1960 Plymouth “Wildwood” appeared first on BangShift.com . https://ift.tt/OdTs9cP from BangShift.com https://ift.tt/svxEJQd

Quarantine Cruise Photos: More Hot Rods, Customs, Muscle Cars, And Trucks Cruising The Streets Of Huntington Beach!

(Photos by Wes Allison) Our coverage of the March 2023 Quarantine Cruise starts right here. While the rest of the country was suffering with the weather, it was just a typical overcast SoCal beach morning, the cars were cool, and fun was had by all. Check out the photos below and if you missed any of our other quarantine cruise photos, you can use the link below to see them all. Thanks to some creative folks who spent their time thinking rather than griping, SoCal’s Quarantine Cruises have been a great way to get out and enjoy your hot rods in Southern California even during the pandemic. And while it started during the “lockdown” days, there has been no reason to stop since everyone has so much fun during these events. Lucky for us we’ve had Wes Allison out there shooting photos, which we totally appreciate and love to check out. The SoCal Quarantine Cruises are something special because they are both a parking lot style car cruise-in and an on-road event all in one. There are a ton

Hardhat History: This 1940s Allis-Chalmers HD5 Crawler Tractor Sales Video Is Great

Image
It sounds weird to say but as we have seen cars evolve from the 1940s through today, many of the same things that have happened in cars have happened with heavy equipment. This 1940s Allis-Chalmers HD5 Crawler Tractor Sales Video does a good job of illustrating that. The stuff today is more complex, outside of the headlights, this tractor has nothing electrical. Stuff today is largely safer, as cool as the open cab operator position is here if one of these rolls over, the operator is doomed. Stuff today has swelled up in size as well. Now, yes there are perhaps more options to pick from in terms of what size you need your machine to be, but the HD5 represented kind of the largest swath of equipment most people needed. Not too big and not too small. As all these old films are want to do, we see the machine doing a load of different jobs. From acting as a log skidder in the mountains to doing snow work in the city, light construction, moving coal, effectively everything that the marketi
