2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition Released: Retro-Cool Look or Trying Too Hard For Cash?

(By Tom Lohnes) – If you want to compete in sales with the Jeep Wrangler, there has to be a steady flow of special-edition vehicles leaving factory floors alongside the normal versions. Ford has introduced plenty of new Bronco models since it came out in 2020, but there hasn’t been a Wrangler-style special edition yet. Well, one is here. Meet the 2023 Ford Bronco Heritage and Heritage Limited Edition.

First of all, the naming of the retro-styled Broncos is sort of confusing. The standard Bronco Heritage edition is based on the near-base Big Bend model, but it comes standard with all sorts of goodies, such as the sasquatch off-road package, a new-for-2023 H.O.S.S (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) 3.0 setup that is only optional on the top-spec Wildtrak model. Good news for Bronco purists,  you can get a 2-door, manual-transmission Heritage model with all of the cool visual upgrades. Speaking of visuals, the heritage might be the coolest Bronco to date. Available in a spectrum of colors, the Heritage edition has a white grille with “Ford” in the middle instead of “Bronco”, a white-painted roof, special pinstriping with a retro “Bronco” badge painted on the side, and some awesome-looking white aluminum wheels that give the vibe of steelies but the strength of alloys. Win! Also, inside, you get a white-painted dashboard, body-color trim, and some absolutely awesome plaid seats. But, if you want something a little more well-equipped, Ford also has you covered.

Although there is no information about it in the press release, it appears that the high-spec Bronco Heritage is only available as a 4-door. That is kind of a shame, but for the non-heritage bodystyle, it sure does look cool. Available in all the same colors as the base Heritage, the “Heritage Limited Edition” comes with awesome “dog-dish” style hubcaps on black-painted alloy wheels, all of the same off-road hardware as the base Heritage, and a few extra stylistic elements like an actual Bronco badge on the dender instead of it painted on. Inside, it gets brown leather seats, which don’t look as cool as the Plaid does, but they have a nice retro pattern in them to keep the old vibe going. The biggest difference between the Heritage and Heritage limited is options. Compared to the lesser model, the Limited comes standard with the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6, recently dubbed the “EcoBoom”, a 12-inch infotainment screen, and dual-zone climate controls with heated seats. Not a huge difference between the two, but it is definitely noticeable.

If you’re in the market for a Bronco Sport, you’re in luck, because Ford is offering heritage versions of those too. The Sport is available as the Heritage Edition with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder, Plaid cloth seats, and all of the same white accents as the big one, and then the Heritage Limited is available with the upgraded Turbo 4-pot and Leather. Pretty simple, but it is a cool way to spice up an otherwise mundane vehicle.

Pricing for the Heritage models has not been released yet, but there should be an announcement soon with all 2023 Bronco family pricing.
