Tre5 Customs OBS Chevy Feature: Red On Red On Red On Red…

Image
This cool truck feature from Tre5 Customs is an OBS that just about everyone can relate to. Yes, the fit and finish is high level, the chassis is rad, and the LS swap is on point, but overall this truck is still identifiable as an OBS, with only one body modification! It still has door handles, features some sport mirrors, and other than a welded in roll pan out back doesn’t have any body mods. It’s just as the general intended, only smoother and prettier. Check out the details in the video below. As we’ve said before, the guys at Tre5 build some pretty cool trucks, and I always like watching their feature videos that come along when a project is ready to get delivered to the owner. These aren’t super sexy videos that make you ooh and aah over the truck but never actually tell you what is in it and under it, these are videos that really show you the cool stuff that went into these builds! We’re talking about the details and info that real enthusiasts want. And while these trucks are t

Is Any Die Grinder Worth Over $600?! – The Most Expensive Die Grinder Ever vs M12 & Makita

Image
The answer is no. For me anyway. I haven’t watched this video yet as I write this, but for me there is NO WAY that a die grinder is worth $602 unless it comes with an operator that I don’t have to pay. I can buy several die grinders for $100 and have backups if I needed it. But I’m not the guy who would ever buy this price point tool, even if it was $200. So let’s take my opinion out of the equation and see what the Torque Test Channel dyno testing shows, as we compare a $600 Snap On to a Milwaukie and Makita. Check it out below. Video Description: Our lifetime of TOOL RANKINGS https://etsy.me/3G8j3QK Today we test the Snap-On 14.4V 1/4″ Die Grinder vs Milwaukee M12 and Makita LXT Die Grinders. For the money, I think it’s obvious our takeaway here. But you tell us. Amazing Video: The Wonderful World Of Wheels Hits Every Aspect Of 1960s Gearhead Life!

Image
Few films we have ever seen capture such a wide swath of 1960s geared America as this one does. “The Wonderful World of Wheels” was made by “Pete” Petersen’s production company in the 1960s and this was no low-dollar deal. Lloyd Bridges, who was already famous at this point was brought in to host/narrate the film and the on location shooting of go-karts, hot rod shows, concours shows, dune buggies, drag racing, sports car racing, and stock car racing, among other sports must have wrung up a pretty stout bill when making this movie. We have shown plenty of stock car racing, road racing, and drag racing videos from the 1960s. We have not ever seen the 1960s sand car scene shown like this film does. It shows how big and popular it was, the wild V8 powered and small engine powered buggies people were building and bringing out, kids who are now older adults are shown, older adults who are now long since passed are having a ball. NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA, and SCCA stuff is shown along with al

Back In 1960 England You Could Cruise Your Steam Traction Engine To The Store, Slowly

Image
Ahh, 1960. It was about 15 years after the end of WWII, the cold war was brewing up nicely between Russia and everyone else, England had returned back to its jolly ol’ self, and pipe smoking doctors were taking their antique steam engines for cruises into town so their wives could buy groceries. Life was grand! This video is cool as it comes from the British Pathe archive and clearly it was made with some fun intent. Steam traction engines were a huge part of the British world for a while and that translated into steam trucks and other vehicles. As you will hear the announcer say, this particular unit is “50 years old” which is kind of shocking in and of itself, right? In 50 years transportation had gone from that to the normal gasoline and diesel vehicles that have been incrementally improved upon ever since. Interesting stuff . There is one number mentioned here that is kind of shocking and that is the number 16, which is claimed to be the top speed of this massive beast! Sure, 16

HOW TO MAKE HP WITH YOUR JUNKYARD 4.8L LS! CHEAP 4.8L POWER MODS. CARB VS EFI, SINGLE VS DUAL PLANE

Image
Have you bought a cheap junkyard 4.8L LS and are now wondering how to add more power without working too hard? Are you asking yourself which intake to run with a carburetor? Or if you should stick with fuel injection? And how about some nitrous? In this video, Richard is going to test all those things and bring you along for all the results. Check it out and let us know what you think. Video Description: CHEAP, JUNKYARD 4.8L POWER MODS. WHAT CAM SHOULD I RUN IN MY 4.8L? CAN I MAKE 500 HP WITH MY 4.8L? CAN I RUN NITROUS ON MY 4.8L? SHOULD I RUN A BIG CAM ON MY 4.8L? WHICH INTAKE SHOULD I PICK FOR MY 4.8L? WILL A SINGLE PLANE MAKE MORE POWER THAN A DUAL PLANE ON A CARBURETED LS? WILL A CARB MAKE MORE POWER THAN EFI? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN A STOCK 4.8L ON THE DYNO, THEN ADDED A MILD CAM AND NITROUS TO THE EFI COMBO. I THEN COMPARED THE EFI INTAKE TO CARBURETED INTAKE. I ALSO COMPARED A SINGLE PLANE TO A DUAL PLANE CARBURETED INTAKE ON THE LITTLE 4.8L! The post HOW TO MAKE H

NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Nitro Photos: Header Flames Up And Hammer Down In Charlotte!

(Photos by David Whealon) –  It was a cool, fast, and adventurous weekend for the stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The weather was a challenge, but they ultimately got the race in and lucky for us we have great photos from our dude David Whealon. David Whealon shot these images and there are some stunners in here. From the four wide launches to the tight shots of funny cars and dragsters rocketing off into the night, if you dig drag racing, you’ll dig these photos. We’ll be back with other classes as the week goes on, but these nitro burning missiles are leading us off! The 1955 Chevy Apache Pickup Rebuild: Finally Finishing What They Started?

Image
It’s been too long since we saw the Apache getting work done so it would be closer to being ready for the trip cross country and back to Canada. They are finally back at it, and will it be ready for the trip and actually make it? There have been some great videos and lots of fun along the way, so if you missed the previous videos there is a link below to check them out too. Do it, you won’t regret it. This project is way bigger than you might think, as the Deboss Garage gang scores a support rig from the Dirt Cinema guys and then buys this 1955 Chevy from Stanceworks before taking over his shop to make some changes. We’re talking about major changes, as this truck is going to get a front clip swap, LS swap, rear step notch, and 4 link, and so much more, before driving it 5,000 miles back home to Canada. This is no small feat, it’s going to be epic. This is the second video in the series and there is a lot more coming, stay tuned. The latest DEBOSS Garage project is this cool 1955 Che

ABANDONED 1955 Chevy Nomad Update: NOW WHAT? The Bottom Has OFFICIALLY Fallen Out Of This Project

Image
This is one of those videos here several things are going to happen and some of it made us laugh out loud. You are going to want to check this out. It started out as less car than he thought it was, but that just means the progress on this thing is sort of fluid. And so is the plan for it, which is why the thing is now a gasser! Just look at it now. DD Speed Shop has no shortage of project cars and somehow this one was completely forgotten. I don’t know how that’s possible, but man I’m glad they have such cool ones to remember, like this 1955 Nomad. Check it out and see what’s coming next right here! ABANDONED AMC GREMLIN: Part 2 – Will It Actually Drive? And If It Does, What Other Fun Stuff Will Get Done To It?

Image
So will it run and drive? Does it have a chance of becoming cool again? Or will this poor abandoned Gremlin be in a world of hurt? It’s going to take some love and patience, and of course some labor, but we have faith in this thing right here. The gang is all here on this one and yet there is a bunch more cool stuff that is going to happen before too long. Check it out and let us know what you think. CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED PART 1 Video Description: This time on Sally’s Speed Shop we head to Indiana with the service truck with plans to revive a 1976 Gremlin that we bought sight unseen from Kevin at @brokengear2476! The car was last on the road in Bon Carbo, Colorado back in 1991. Kevin bought the car and had it shipped to his place just outside of Ft. Wayne, Indiana before selling this gem to us. I roped in my buddy Cale from @camracing to help with this project and drive one of the vehicles back to Georgia with me should we be able to get the little Gremlin running. Stay tuned for

Halfass Kustoms 1935 Dodge Coupe Project: Cutting The Roof Off, AGAIN, To Make It Cooler

Image
With so much going on, everywhere on this car, it is easy to get distracted and go in multiple directions, but the roof still needs the love right now and so Brent is going to starting filling it in and then doing more work on the doors. The original plan was to build a chopped 1935 Dodge 3 window coupe out of a sedan body that had been cut up. It was someone else’s abandoned project and boy did it look daunting, even for someone like Brent. So he decided that a new donor would be in order and that he needed to find something else he could make into his dream 3 window. You are going to want to check this out. Brent from Halfass Kustoms is one of my favorite dudes on YouTube. He’s not fancy, he’s a bit brutish sometimes, but man he gets projects done in record time and is so inspiring to anyone who needs a push to get out on the shop and do some work. He works on his stuff multiple nights a week and so he really makes headway each and every week. I’ve been following his 1935 Dodge Cou

This Look At The Coolest Ferrari Movie and TV Cars Of All Time Is Great – 1980s Greatness and More

Image
When we think of iconic TV and movie cars, there’s a short list that people default to. KITT, The General Lee, Herbie, and on and on we go. But what of Ferrari? Just when you think it’s a weird question you’ll think about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Miami Vice, Magnum PI, and more. The 1980s and 1990s were 100% packed with Ferraris screaming across our TV screens and movie screens as well. Ok, many times the Ferraris we saw on screen were replicas designed to look the part and not cause massive damage to iconic cars. We dig the selections here. Anytime we get to see vintage footage from Gumball Rally and learn that they were driven by the actors and the cars were REAL. Yes, the 427 Cobra and the Ferrari Daytona that mixed it up through the film were actually real cars and the Ferrari fans out these may cringe when the learn of some backstage, ummm, problems. Engine Video: Watch These 10 Awesome Radial Engines And All Of Their Glorious Specs

Image
Radial engines may have had their day in the sun before turbines came into the picture and kind of took over the world of aviation but we still love them. Even the small ones are pretty big and boy can they make some power. This video looks at 10 of the best radial engines ever built from all over the world and doesn’t just show them, it actually gives the specs and history behind each one. This is not necessarily a grouping of the biggest and most powerful engines but rather some of the most durable, long-lasting, and largest volume ones ever as well. There’s nothing like the sound that a radial engine makes, especially one that has a centrifugal supercharger on it like some of those that you will see here. The stories of servicing the multi-row engines used in big WWII era planes are pretty amazing. If the starting procedure failed there would be nearly five dozen plugs to change and multiple hours of work to change them. The way the exhaust comes off of the cylinders in the multipl

Everyone Loves A Stout 505 on 5/05, right? Pontiac, Chevy, and Chrysler Thumper Videos Here!

Image
While we’re definitely on the backside of the “displacement days” part of 2023, we’re not going down easily. In fact, we’re pulling out all the stops. In this case we’re checking out nasty 505ci engines from Chevy, Pontiac, and Mopar. Yes, all three of those makes have enlarged engine combos that measure out to 505ci and they’re all pretty nasty. As weird as it sounds, when you get down to the numbers, it actually makes sense that all three of these brands could land in the same place on this day. If you start with a 455 Pontiac, a 440ci Chrysler, or a 454ci Chevrolet engine, it takes slightly different math to make your 505 but it’s all pretty close. Most people get to the 505ci Pontiac combo by using a 4.350″ bore and a 4.250″ stroke. The Pontiac engine is the closest on factory stroke to making the 505ci displacement as a 455 has a 4.21″ stroke. It’s mostly the bore that is making up the cubes for the Pontiac. The Mopar and Chevrolet however both need a bunch more than the factory

Installing New MAHLE Gen V Forged Pistons Onto Stock L83 Rods

Image
It’s a great time to be alive and be a hot rodder. I say this because it has never been easier to make horsepower than it is in 2023. One of the biggest reasons for this is the insane number of performance parts that are available all over the world. A perfect example are the PowerPak drop in pistons that Mahle Motorsport offers for a variety of applications, but that started with the LS and now LT engines. Being able to add a high quality forged piston as a drop in for applications like that LS and LT that respond so well to boost, means the average guy at home can do it. To show just how easy it is, Jefferson is going to do the install in his L83. Now this is a direct injection engine so it will be different than an LS but he’s going to show you just what the differences are in piston design. Video Description: We have a set of new MAHLE PowerPak forged drop-in pistons for our Gen V L83 rebuild, and Jefferson takes you through the entire process of removing the old pistons, preppi

Happy 5/04! Let’s Celebrate the Workhorse Case 504ci Diesel Inline Six – Built To Last!

Image
There’s no such thing as as 504ci factory engine, right? Wrong. The Case Manufacturing concern which is one of the most legendary names in American tractor and equipment history produced a 504ci inline six turbo diesel as their bread and butter working engine for decades. The engine grew out of a family of inline sixes and once 504ci was achieved in 1964, it stayed with the lineup until the 1980s! These engines could be found in farm tractors, crawler tractors like bulldozers, and all kinds of industrial applications. They were pure torque makers and rated at 130hp at the tractor drawbar and 155hp at the PTO. Displacing 8.3-liters, they had a 16.5:1 compression ratio, a redline of 2,200 rpm, and a bore and stroke that measured 4.625″ x 5.00″. Even though this was a yeoman engine that was designed for work and did just that for years and years on end for loads of American farmers and equipment operators, it has not escaped the hands of hot rodders. The 504 is a really popular engine t

Give Your 2011-2023 Ford More Breathing Room With Holley’s Hi-Ram And Ultra Lo-Ram Coyote Manifolds

If you are looking for a great addition to your Coyote powered Ford, or your Coyote swap, look no further than these great intake manifolds from Holley. The Hi-Ram, and Ultra Lo-Ram, intake manifolds not only handle whatever you throw at them in your factor Coyote equipped application but also help fit this big engine in virtually any swap scenario. Video Description: Designed to fit stock 5.0 Coyote heads found on 2011 to 2023 Ford vehicles – Holley’s Hi-Ram and Ultra Lo-Ram intake manifolds are high-performance intakes that won’t break the bank. They also fit other related engines, like the Voodoo and Predator. These manifolds are made of cast aluminum, built tough, and can handle all the boost you can throw at them. And because they’re modular, you can easily access the runners to port them if you want to make more power. The port design has been

How To Build A Channeled Hot Rod: The Working Man’s Model A Sedan Part 21 Welding The Floors In From Underneath!

Image
The body is mostly done, the patch panels are in, the floors are done from the inside, the firewall has been installed and some of the suspension is even set up. But now it’s time to finish welding the floors in from underneath. Check it out! This project is getting nicer than he thought by the day! Well, the Model A hot rod just keeps coming along, and while we know this thing is rough and was supposed to just become a roller, it sure is turning into something cooler than we expected. What’s funny is how the entire mood of this build has changed and how much fun it is turning into. Yes, this Model A body is so rough that many folks would never build it, but we think it is the perfect car for someone who hasn’t built anything before because they won’t feel horrible if they screw up and make a mistake. And because I like the patina look, I think building something like this could be fun. Check it out and let us know what you think and if you missed the previous videos in the series y

1970s Perfection: This Motorcycling Safety Film Stars Peter Fonda and Evel Knievel – So Good!

Image
If you were someone who was going to make a film about motorcycling safety in the 1970s and your job was to cast it, who would you pick? Certainly your first choices would have to be cool, they would have to connect with a youthful audience, and they’d have to be people with some cred in the motorcycle world. Racers? They’d be fine but most people, especially kids didn’t know who the real rock starts of that world were. Athletes? Yeah that could work but again, meh, not really perfectly fitting the mold. Peter Fonda and Evel Knievel? Hell yes! That’s who stands front and center in this video and we can only imagine the elation of the filmmakers when both agreed to do the job. This is a neat video and if you are rider, we’re guessing all of the basics here still apply. Stuff like jumping on someone else’s bike and having no clue of how it has been maintained or prepared, using good judgement on the road and being eyes-up awaiting for someone to do something dumb, etc. Outside of the c

Homebuilt Boost: This Ratty Looking Dodge Dakota Has A Home Turbocharged 3.9L V6 And It Makes Some Power!

Image
This is what hot rodding looks like right here. True knees and elbows, make it weird and fast hot rodding. You are looking at a weird little beast of truck that no one will ever really see coming at the drags or at the occasional unsanctioned acceleration contest. This truck has been ingeniously hooked up with a single turbocharger attached to its 3.9L V6 engine and that engine is effectively stock. This was a truck that made about 150-175hp at the flywheel when it was new. The engine has 40-60k on it for mileage and the truck itself about 150k according to the guy who owns it and who made this video. Let’s just say that it is making more than that now. No, it is not making some ridiculous amount but it’s making a ton more than stock and it has to be hilarious fun to drive, especially because the guy has also stuck a five speed stick in it for good measure. The homebuilt turbocharger setup on it will certainly catch people by surprise at the car show or local cruise night but the fact

Helmet Sale: Simpson And Racequip Are On Sale Now! Quit Using A Crap Helmet.

Image
I just got back from Holley’s LSFest West in Las Vegas and the number of people who are racing, or trying to race, wearing crappy helmets, or those that are NOT designed to be used in a car or truck, still blows me away. It gets better all the time, but even so, we need more people to do the right thing for themselves and buy a good helmet. I remember when I got my first helmet that was actually bought for me to use while racing cars. It was awesome. It fit better than anything I’d ever borrowed, and it was mine. I loved it. I have had several helmets since, but regardless of my budget, I’ve always bought a helmet that is specifically made for racing cars and is certified for doing so. Helmets can be expensive, but they don’t have to be. With this new sale coming out of Holley, their Simpson and Racequip brands are both having helmet sales. Yes, a clear-coated carbon fiber helmet is going to be more expensive than a painted one. But from a safety perspective, you can get the same prot

It’s Another Rat Motor Day! 502ci Big Block Chevrolet Videos and More Here

Image
No, we’re not done with kicking out the jams about engine that just happen to have displacements that are also dates. Today we’re looking at the 502ci big block Chevrolet which is unique in our series of stories simply because it was never offered in a factory car. The 502, when it was introduced blew us away. We were kids back then and the idea that there was a crate engine with 500hp out of the box was amazing. Obviously the 502/502 combo is kind of tame in today’s world of 1,000hp engines growing on trees but they are a riot to drive and if you have ever been in a car powered by one, we know you were smiling. The engine carries a 4.466″ bore and a 4.00″ stroke. It was offered in versions that were designed to be in trucks because of a lower horsepower rating and a brutally strong torque curve all the way up to the 600hp version that topped the crate motor performance charts for a while. The Ram Jet 502 was cool because it shipped with factory fuel injection on it. There’s not a lo

The Ultimate Pre-War Jalopy Shop Truck – Hot Rodding 101

The Iron Trap Model A Shop Truck was a super popular build series, and if you missed it we have a link below. It was simple, but as period correct as possible and just has a cool look and feel that makes you want to drive it. And that was the point. This is their parts runner and lunch getter at the shop and we know we wouldn’t argue with getting in it. Video Description: Our 1929 Ford Model A Roadster Pickup is styled as a pre-war hot rod, and one of our favorite builds. This jalopy is very reminiscent of the early shop trucks that could be found at Bonnevile, both racing and being used as support vehicles. Similar to the Pagoda City Coupe, this hot rod needs to be driven and is very bare bones. We can’t wait to drive this all over this summer! Video: 30 Years Ago The Stirling External Combustion Engine Was Tested By The Government – Where Did It Go?

Image
We’ve heard of the Stirling External Combustion Engine before but we never knew that they were not only built but also used and tested by the US Government, specifically the Department of Energy. These “external” part of the engine means that the combustion is not happening in the cylinder but rather outside of it. The heat from the combustion is used to move the piston. Weird? Hell yes it is but according to this video, which is admittedly slanted in favor of the potential manufacturer of the engine, the thing beat any and all expectations. It raised fuel economy, exceeded emission standards without the use of a catalytic converter or other device, and gave trouble free service in a multitude of different locations and environments. If there is ONE part of the video that raises an eyebrow it is the fact that the narrator says that the tchnology exists to put the engines into “limited production” today. We’re not sure why they would be “limited” in their production but there are a few
