We all know that Richard has tested junkyard big blocks of all kinds, from various generations of the venerable 454 7.4L, to the newer 8.1L 496. He’s tested them all stock, with camshafts and other upgrades, switching from EFI to Carbs and vice versa, and has also put them all under boost to see just how much power they make. I’m looking at needing a new engine for my 1987 Chevrolet R30 Dually and I’ve been debating about getting an 8.1 to shove in it, so all these torque and power comparisons are super important to me right now.

Army trucks, we love them. Why? Well for the same reason we love functional hot rods that are lacking in amenities but are heavy in ass kicking ability.
