How It’s Made: Steve Morris Racing Engines 4500HP SMX Head Gets Machined to Life!

Machining stuff out of billet aluminum is cool, and this right here is extra cool. When you are talking about a billet aluminum head for a 4500 horsepower racing engine, it’s something to see for sure. The chips are going to be flying and there is a lot of machining going down. Seeing something huge like one of these billet heads, which requires this number of machining operations, go from a giant block of billet to something capable of supporting half the cylinders in a 4,500 horsepower combination.

NMCA All-American Nationals Photo Coverage: Muscle Cars And More On Track In Norwalk

Check out our coverage from the recently completed NMCA All-American Nationals held at America’s Dragstrip, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Along with the normal complement of NMCA classes there were also separate Cobra Jet Mustang and COPO Camaro shoot outs, featuring all the latest factory race cars and vintage examples from the golden age muscle era. A late model Hemi class was also contested and was stacked with the latest Drag Pak Challengers and SRT offerings. Another highlight for me was the F.A.S.T. group. F.A.S.T means Factory Appearing Stock Tire, the quick rundown on these cars is big inch engines that look concours correct wrapped in perfectly restored peak era muscle cars going mid 9’s on a tiny bias-ply tire.
