Watch An 828ci Ford Mountain Motor Pro Stock Engine Turn 9,000 RPM And Make Almost 2,000 NA Horsepower On The Dyno!

Mountain motor pro stock is a class for true gearheads to revel at. The engines are literal monsters coming in at over 820ci and they churn out close to 2,000 hp (depending on atmospheric conditions) without the help of a blower, nitrous, or exotic fuels. The huge engines turn serious RPMs for their size. As you’ll see in this video, 9,000+ is where they live at the top end of the course. I was lucky enough to be one of the announcers when the 6.20 barrier was broken with these cars several moons ago. They have since gotten way lighter, faster, and more advanced. The competition is still just as close, though.

The major difference between the attitude of the big 800ci pro stocks and the NHRA 500ci cars is pretty simple. I remember talking to one time IHRA (and later NHRA) pro stock phenom about the cars and he told me that the big motor cars pull as hard or harder in every gear down the track as they do on the launch. The 500ci cars leave like their hair is on fire but once you shift it into high gear, the thing isn’t doing a whole lot. In the naturally aspirated world, there really is no replacement for displacement.

This mondo mill sounds the nuts and makes big time horsepower, to boot. The whole thing is like a quick symphony.
