Trapped 40 Years: Freeing An Old Ford Mustang From A Michigan Barn

Image
In our minds we always want any Barn Find cars to find amazing homes and to live happily ever after, like Cinderella. After all, finding some old car in a barn or shed is a pretty romantic notion, so it makes sense. But the reality is that most of the time they just end up getting cleaned up and sold. Sometimes the folks that buy them actually do what is needed to keep their value, whether that is restoring them or keeping them original, depending on the circumstances. But most of the time they don’t end up being restored by the family or saved or enjoyed by the people who have been keeping them. This 1970 Mach 1 Mustang is one where the ending is more of a storybook ending than most. It is staying local, with people who know the history behind it, and that’s special for sure. Oh, and did we mention that it is a 428 Cobra Jet car? Yeah, this one is pretty special. RAREST of the RARE – Barris Built Pontiac Firebird Goes Up For Auction

Image
George Barris built some insanely cool customs in his time and was particularly well-known for building customs that were found on tv shows. From the sublime to the ridiculous, George has built some of the most well known tv and movie cars of the 1960’s and 1970’s. His most famous include the original Batmobile, Adams Family rides, the Monkees machine, and the Red Wrecker just to name a few. This Firebird was also built for TV and is incredibly rare. Luckily Tommy Lee Byrd found it, the details, and more at the Mecum auction in Chattanooga. Video Description: Check out this wild George Barris custom, built for a TV show back in 1968. This car was 1 of only 3 built by Barris, and it’s the only one known to exist today. It started as a 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible, and got the full Barris treatment with molded front end, custom bumpers, side scoops, spoiler and a metal flake paint job. Other cool items are the Hurst wheels, which are pretty rare pieces. I spotted the Superteen Fi...

How To Repair A Rusty Cab Corner, Inner Rocker, Rear Floor, And B-Pillar Panels On A 1971 Chevy C10 PART 1

Image
We have been showing a lot of custom sheet metal work around here lately, and also rust repair with custom patch panels, but if you are lucky enough to have new sheetmetal replacement panels, then this video is for you. This is Part 1 of the build where the cab corner, rockers, floors, and more are getting repaired. Video Description: In this video I’m going to show you how to replace a cab corner, inner rocker, rear floor section and a rear B-pillar repair panel on a 1971 Chevy C-10. These techniques can also be used on Chevrolet C10, C20, C30 and GMC trucks, Blazer and Jimmy 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972. The C-10 panels I used were from TriPlus which are the panels that most aftermarket companies sell like Auto Metal Direct, Goodmark, Chevy Truck Stop and LMC Truck. Every repair patch panel was welded with a Lincoln Power MIG 140, with a 75/25 shielding gas. This is my restomod project, old school hot rod styling with a modern drivetrain and most of the performance and h...

FE Race And Reunion Coverage: More Great Fords From Beaver Springs Dragway

All things FE baby, that’s what the FE Race and Reunion is all about at Beaver Springs Dragway. Thanks to Joe Grippo we’ve got lots of photos from all over the event, so check out the second gallery right here! And if you missed our previous photos, use the link below. (Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) It’s been 10 years since the first FE Race and Reunion was held at Beaver Springs Dragway in Pennsylvania and, of course, BangShift was there. In fact, we have never missed featuring this event on the site. So here we are again, back at Beaver for the 10th annual FE Race and Reunion. Even though the last FE rolled out of the Ford Factory way back in the mid-seventies, the venerable engine has had quite a long life and a hardcore, dedicated fanbase. Look no further than these galleries from this event for the evidence. Three days of drag racing, a hardy swap meet, and a stout car show were the activities of the weekend. Add in a few FE luminaries of the past like Ohio George Montgomery ...

NMCA All-American Nationals Photo Coverage: Amazing Drag Cars And Action!

We’ve got our sixth gallery of photos from Joe Grippo’s coverage of the NMCA All-American Nationals right here. (Words and Photos by Joe Grippo)  Ever been to an NMCA Event? If you haven’t, you should. Check out our coverage from the recently completed NMCA All-American Nationals held at America’s Dragstrip, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Along with the normal complement of NMCA classes there were also separate Cobra Jet Mustang and COPO Camaro shoot outs, featuring all the latest factory race cars and vintage examples from the golden age muscle era. A late model Hemi class was also contested and was stacked with the latest Drag Pak Challengers and SRT offerings. Another highlight for me was the F.A.S.T. group. F.A.S.T means Factory Appearing Stock Tire, the quick rundown on these cars is big inch engines that look concours correct wrapped in perfectly restored peak era muscle cars going mid 9’s on a tiny bias-ply tire. These cars seemingly defy physics, pretty mi...

CHEAP, BROKEN, JUNKYARD 4.8L-WILL IT RUN? WITH SO MANY ISSUES, CAN THE DAMAGED LS COME BACK TO LIFE?

Image
So you find a cheap 4.8 or 5.3 for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and take it home to clean up and put into your project car or truck, only to find that it has a bunch of issues you weren’t expecting. What do you do? I mean everyone always talks about how cheap these engines are used and how they are all perfect and can’t be killed. If you believe the hype, then an LS engine is indestructible and was born to be a race engine whether Chevrolet likes it or not. But what about those engines that do have issues? Are any of them too big to overcome? Well yes, some might be too big to overcome, but that’s going to be a rarity. Unless it has a rod hanging out the side of the block, then it has a pretty good shot at being fixed. This 4.8L of Richard’s had all kinds of issues, some worse than others, and he fixed them all to make this thing run and make real power. Check out the video.
