(Words and Photos by David Whealon) We’re back to the awesome Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. for the annual visit of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship along with the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and the IMSA Prototype Challenge. All of which took to the 3.27-mile 18-turn natural terrain road course through the rolling hills of Southern Virginia with most classes turning in blazing laps well south of two minutes. The weather was a bit on the hot side but perfect for the total non-stop racing that has been occurring at VIR for many years in the month of August. The IMSA brand brings along with them a unique cross-section of their diverse manufacturing participation boasting eighteen different manufacturers competing from across the globe from the American Muscle of the Blue Ovals and Bowtie Brigades all the way to the Bimmer and Raging Bull exotics. We were super stoked that Finnegan was going to be back at Drag Week with Blasphemi, after it’s two year hiatus, but man they are already on a tough road. We’ve got all the adventures that Finnegan and the crew are going through during this year’s Drag Week, starting with the chassis dyno session at HED and then going through all the trials and tribulations. It’s not going to be good. But it surely will be a typical Finnegan adventure. Man some of this is tough to watch. Finnegan and Newbern are no strangers to thrashing, but these guys are also really good and making things work and they hate having carnage with something they have spent so much time and energy on. With that said, there is nothing to be done but to thrash and make things happen when things don’t go the way you want them to. I know this seems like a bit of weird content coming from us, but why is it that we get so excited when our windshield is super clean, but we tend to wash it less when it really matters? It’s officially fall and that means that it is going to start raining more in some parts of the country and if you are like me you usually check out your wipers and think about applying more water repellant this time of year. I drive old stuff that doesn’t have awesome wipers, so the better the blade and the better the water repellant the happier I am when the big Texas rains happen. With that said, I never thought about using the clay bar on my windshield! To be fair, that’s mostly because my stuff is not usually painted nicely so I never actually use the clay bar on it, but I have on other cars before and this sounds like a great idea.
